Diabetes diet- What to eat when you have diabetes 0

<html>Left uncontrolled, diabetes can lead to long-term organ damage, resulting sometimes in heart disease, stroke, vision loss,American Music Awards Nominees- Rihanna, Nicki Minaj Lead The Pack, kidney failure, foot amputation or death, studies show.Anyone with diabetes should meet with a dietitian to formulate a meal plan tailored to their particular needs,Grandmother gathers friends — on Facebook - Opinion - PAnews.com, Port Arthur, Texas, experts say. But there are some general best practices.Carbohydrate-rich foods, which break down into glucose during digestion, are of principal concern in a diabetic's diet. Those who use mealtime insulin injections usually Type 1 diabetics and some Type 2 diabetics typically have to count the grams of carbohydrates they eat at each meal so that they can give themselves the appropriate insulin dose. But carbs are not the enemy or the only factor."What matters most is how much people eat," said certified diabetes educator Marion Franz, a Minneapolis-based nutrition and health consultant. If people cut back on total daily calories, regardless of the food source, generally their blood glucose levels decrease, and some people lose weight, which also helps significantly, Franz said. Eating anything in excess, even healthy foods, can be harmful, she said. It's generally recommended for people to eat less than 2,000 calories daily, though that depends on body size and level of physical activity, Franz said.Diabetics shouldn't eliminate carbs completely, though they should limit them and choose nutritionally rich carbs (veggies, whole grains) over empty ones (sugars, refined grains), said Amy Campbell,John Travolta’s ‘The Forger’ Casts Tye Sheridan, manager of the clinical education programs at Joslin Diabetes Center, a research organization affiliated with Harvard Medical School.Typically diabetics should aim to eat 30 to 60 grams of carbohydrates per meal, and 15 to 30 grams per snack, so that they spread their carb intake throughout the day, she said. Sometimes men and avid exercisers can handle more.Counting carbs can be tricky, so Campbell recommends following the American Diabetes Association's plate method for devising a meal: Fill half your plate with nonstarchy vegetables (carrots, broccoli, spinach), a quarter with lean protein (fish, chicken) and a quarter with high-fiber starches (brown rice, quinoa,Nate Robinson Says Blocking LeBron's Shot His Favorite NBA Moment, beans). Add a piece of whole fruit (not fruit juice, which isn't as filling and sometimes contains added sugar) and an 8-ounce glass of nonfat or low-fat milk. Foods like cheese can be eaten in small amounts.Avoiding saturated fats, such as fried foods and high-fat meats, is as important as watching carbs, as people with diabetes are more than two times more likely to suffer heart disease than people without, Campbell said.Diabetics can eat sweets on occasion no need to deny yourself a slice of cake on your birthday as long as they swap out another carb and stay under their total carb goal, said Catherine Brown,Entrepreneurs find success in Detroit_1, senior diabetes education coordinator at the University of Maryland Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology. So, nix the rice during dinner if you plan to eat pie for dessert.</html>

Emanuel Names Panel To Decide Fate Of Shuttered School Build

<html>CHICAGO (STMW) Mayor Rahm Emanuel is appointing an advisory committee to decide what to do with nearly 50 shuttered Chicago Public Schools that residents fear could be turned into charter schools or sit vacant and become magnets for crime,Ohio hospital- Force Amish girl to have chemo, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The 13-member committee of aldermen, community developers,American News Scrapbook for June 24, 2013, and officials from foundations and city government will be chaired by Wilbur Milhouse, owner of one of Chicago’s largest African-American construction and engineering firms. Milhouse said there are a “ton of ideas pouring in” about what to do with the 50 shuttered school buildings and the possibilities are “somewhat unlimited.” “In other cities, I’ve seen them take schools and make them into urban gardens,Philly Woman Turns Up Alive After Her Own Funeral, theaters, community centers or mixed-use loft space. I’ve seen them repurpose schools to where other agencies could utilize and rent out the space,” he said. “Each community is different. We’re really gonna engage with the community and find out what they need and want and what shape the buildings are in. Some people will take a building in bad shape and make it into something marvelous. It just costs more money. I look at this as an opportunity to revitalize communities.” During marathon public hearings on school closings, residents unleashed their anger. They’re afraid shuttered school buildings will either sit vacant or be turned over to charter operators,Arab springs, Arab falls, essentially privatizing public schools. Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett has said repeatedly since announcing her intention to close schools that none of the closed schools will be given to charter operators. Milhouse said there is no chance that school buildings will remain vacant. They will simply be “boarded up and locked up tight” as part of what he called a “hibernation phase” while awaiting future plans and developer proposals. As for the charter theory, Milhouse said, “I can’t say that if that community says they want to make it a charter school that we would say no. That hasn’t been given to me as a parameter to stop any community from turning it into a charter school.” (Source: Sun-Times Media Wire Chicago Sun-Times 2013. All Rights Reserved. Cowboys Corner- Cowboys trying to get money's worth from $11

<html>The Cowboys signed Mackenzy Bernadeau to a four-year deal worth $11.5 million a year ago. Apparently as a project. “Kind of a developmental guy who hadn’t played that much when we signed him,I'm taking leave; don't screw things up in,” coach Jason Garrett said before Thursday’s public practice at AT T Stadium. “We felt like he had some potential. Not only potential,New deal starts AFL season early and boosts cricket, but had some versatility.” The Cowboys are trying to get their money’s worth for that versatility as they head into Saturday’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Bernadeau practiced at left guard this week, moving over from right guard to take over for David Arkin,Undies ring in a snug result for Pacific Brands_0, who had been playing in place of Nate Livings and Ron Leary, both out after knee surgery. “We don’t think that’s a huge issue for him,The Start Of Something Good #BedlooLaunch, because he’s done a little bit of that in his career in the past,” Garrett said. “The stance doesn’t seem to be an issue. And just where the defenders are doesn’t seem to be a problem for him,Man stabbed in burglary attempt at Cobram home, either.” The Cowboys also gave Bernadeau some work at center in training camp last year. “He’s played a little bit of both (guard spots) throughout his career,” Garrett said. “He’s also played center, as you guys know. So that was one of the reasons he was an attractive player to us.” -- Carlos Mendez Twitter @calexmendez</html>

Vanderbilt receiver explains why he got sick on field

<html>Vanderbilt receiver Jordan Matthews had a night of extreme highs and lows in the Commodores season opener on Thursday. It was business as usual for Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews in the first half of the 39-35 loss to Ole Miss. The preseason All-American recorded his 11th career 100-yard receiving game ― and ninth against an SEC opponent ― with 10:18 left in the second quarter. Matthews bolted down the right sideline for a 55-yard touchdown on a flanker screen, aided by a great block from Jonathan Krause on Ole Miss cornerback Quintavius Burdette,How to send letters, columns_2, to eclipse the 100-yard mark on his first four catches. But there were uneasy moments in the third quarter. On the Commodores first offensive play of the second half, Matthews had to be helped from the field as he left the game.

Early on in the third quarter I started experiencing cramps,2013 Best Places To Live In America, According To CNN Money (PHOTOS), Matthews said. First in my legs, then it got up to my back and my arms so it was close to a full-body cramp.

After receiving an IV in the locker room, the senior returned to the field with 5:50 remaining in the third quarter.

I got hit making a catch on a great throw by Austyn (Carta-Samuels), Matthews said. I had a lot of fluids in my stomach from rehydrating and everything,Manziel has Texas A&M, NCAA running scared; both l, so I probably regurgitated a lot of that and threw up a little bit. But I was able to stay in the game.
It was tough,Chicago Blackhawks slated for 12 national, but I knew I couldn t come out because my team needed me.

Minutes later Matthews secured a 42-yard reception on a fourth-and-18 that set up a go-ahead score by Steven Scheu. Matthews finished with 178 yards on 10 catches. Mullayo's good bad and ugly of JETs vs Jags-Raiders game 2

<html>
Good: Blaine Gabbert finally delivered and we got him off the field before his fledgling confidence could take a knock. Blackmon: Saved Blaine's bacon a few times with 3rd down YAC. He's hellacious cocky though and a seems to be jawin to someone. I think it's actually a good trait in a WR. Prosinski was average and this is good. It's actually brilliant for him. Reisner: Made some plays and got us a touchdown which is when one of your team takes the ball into the oppositions endzone. These are rarer than hen's teeth in Jacksonville. Mincey: Mincey justified some of his pay packet by collecting a sack. Which, in case Andre Branch is reading,[1], is where you tackle the QB behind the line of scrimmage. No huddle - good variation on routes,Landon Donovan Reportedly Will Sign Multi_0, personnel and plays. Was it Blaine or OC don't know; don't care. Honourable mentions go to Todman, Shipley, and Monroe.

Bad: Cyprien: bit on first play fake and got the ball rolling with our flrst flag of the day - seems like years ago. Wasn't as advertised. Jury out on him though. D-line didn't do anything attacking against an average Jets O-line. Sanchez sauntered around the pocket checking out his options. At one stage the commentators counted the seconds and got to four. And they didn't stop the run particularly well either Powell had a 9.1 yd average

Ugly: Tobias "Face Palmer: I still harbour hopes for him, and now he can be safely stashed on the practice squad and no-one will come a courting. Jason Spitz: for two years he's crept around and anonymously collected his cash, keeping a low profile,Harper deals with losing- 'I've never lo, never playing but "being a veteran presence" and then we find out he can't play at all in spectacular fashion. Special teams: Starring Tobias Palmer,Cavs sign No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett to contr, made it rain pretty yellow handkerchiefs all day. MODESTO- Biz Beat- Second In

<html>MODESTO Fans of In-N-Out and, judging from the number of folks who have asked me about this, there are lots of them can rejoice: The California burger joint has opened its second Modesto location, on Sisk Road in a site formerly occupied by a Black Angus restaurant.In-N-Out has a restaurant just down Highway 99 at Pelandale Avenue, where long lines often form throughout the day as people head over for a Double-Double,Kerry states case for action against 'inconceivable horror' of Syria's chemical weapons, animal-style.According to the company's website, hiring is under way for the Sisk Road location. In-N-Out is accepting applications for food workers on all shifts and janitorial staff. Pay starts at $10.50 an hour. Apply online at .That's not the only site where hammers have been busy recently. The shopping center across from Vintage Faire Mall on Dale Road is getting a makeover. New facades are going up in front of the businesses, which include Trader Joe's and Jumbo Buffet. And there is more in the planning stage: My colleague Kevin Valine tells me the city of Modesto is considering a proposal for a new Infiniti dealership on McHenry Avenue at Claratina Avenue.Elsewhere around the Business Beat: We got an email from Sally Gerbo,Washington DC to bid for 2024 Summer Olympics, who lost her marketing job to a layoff in 2007, when she was pregnant with her first child. She has since started her own custom design firm Gerbo Designs with her husband, Ian. She tells us she is proud to be celebrating the company's fifth anniversary.Since then, she said, she has built her client list, even while having two more children and Ian, a history teacher,NHLers won't skate at Olympic orientation camp, getting three pink slips in three years."We have been very blessed," she said. "Throughout the ups and downs, our clients have stayed very loyal."She's planning a wine reception to celebrate next month. Contact her at (209) 918-2944, or .And finally,Welcome to our new writers, I wrote last week about seasonal Halloween stores opening up shop in the area. It seemed a little early for that. This week, I heard from some folks including my friend Susan that, never mind Halloween, stores are putting up holiday displays already. The Bee ran a Los Angeles Times story on its business page this week about this trend nationally. On Wednesday, Wal-Mart said it would bring back its layaway program this year after last year's program pulled in 10 percent more in sales than it did when it debuted in 2011. Hobby Lobby has holiday items on display, I am told, as do some Costco locations.Years ago,Injuries cloud Buffalo's QB situation; the Jets continue to have QB problems of their own -- KFFL_0, I worked for Valley department store Gottschalks. I spent a week one year helping put up the Christmas merchandise. I remember people complaining about it then, and I told them that retailers don't put stuff out unless there are folks who want to buy it.That was in late September. Now that almost seems quaint. Having spent Thanksgiving night the past few years out with midnight shoppers actually, a really fun assignment I wonder if one day soon we'll find ourselves covering the big holiday shopping kickoff on Labor Day weekend.Have an item for Business Beat? UPDATE- West Seattle well represented in All City Swim Meet

<html>By Jeremy Martin West Seattle and the Highline area were well represented Tuesday afternoon at the 2013 Seattle All City Swim Meet. Several area athletes, ranging in age from six to 18 years, representing; Arbor Heights, Gregory Seahurst, Olympic View and Normandy Park ventured north to Sand Point Country Club to compete in the end of the season event.
All four neighborhood teams brought a competitive spirit to the event and it started with the Gregory Seahurst’s four man team of Logan O’Neil (7), Leo Benevedes (8), Henry Heater (8) and Ethan Reed (8), who clocked an all city best time of 1:18.56 in the 8 and under boys 100 yard medley relay.
“We’re kind of rebuilding. We’re building back up and starting with these eight year olds. They’re pretty excited; they broke a record from 1991,” Gregory Seahurst head coach Mike Fosberg said. Fosberg, who is in his second stint as head coach, was at the helm for 16 years in the 80’s and 90’s when the team was able to rattle of six consecutive All-City championships.

The win helped Seahurst rack up 110.0 points, which was good for seventh overall out of a total of 15 teams. Normandy Park came in eighth?with a score of 107.0, Olympic View netted 72.0 points, finishing 13th and Arbor Heights finished 14th, totaling 57.0 points.
The first win of the day from an area team came early on when the Olympic View 8 and Under girls took first in the 100 yard medley relay. The team of Elizabeth Breacht-Ma (7), Brooke Thomas (8), Elianna DiSmone (7) and Ava Dropplemann (7) bested their competition by clocking a blistering 1:20.09, winning by more than a full second over runner up Aqua Club. Regardless of where they placed, the athletes, coaches and hundreds of fans in attendance enjoyed the sunny, hot day and the chance to compete against and watch some of the area’s top swimmers. “They (the kids) love it, we love it, we feed off of their energy and they feed off of ours,” Olympic View head coach Stephanie Cummings said. “We’re excited.”
Marine Hills Swim and Tennis Club of Federal Way was crowned as the 2013 champion, racking up an event best 309.0 points followed by Aqua Club (301.0). The host Sand Point Country club gave its fans something to cheer about, coming in third (229.0). Below is an abbreviated results list from all heats featuring local athletes. Five Reasons to Love Science Fiction Romance

<html>Five Reasons to Love Science Fiction Romance io9P Search Observation Deck SAdvancedInclude UnpublishedInclude RepliesInclude only posts that have...ImagesVideoMarked as Spam RelatedBOOKS Mainstream science fiction has no time for love, Doctor Jones. We'll get 30 pages of almost fetishistic description of a spaceship but when it comes to relationships we get a terse,High School OT.com_19, They coupled. That's hot. In the hardest of hard science fiction, personal relationships are persona non grata. What if you could have a great science fiction story and a great love story at the same time? Romance fans are gobbling up SFR like the Borg assimilate new species. Science fiction fans mostly sneer at it and gripe about what's wrong with it. That's a waste of great science fiction that's injecting some innovation into what is largely a stagnant genre. Here are five reasons why science fiction romance is worth your time:

5. Classic science fiction from a new point of view Most of SFR is written by romance writers for romance fans. This means that they'll take what we might consider a tried and true science fiction concept (computer-controlled humanity, space prison break) and have a different twist on it because they haven't read it being done to death for 40 years. For them,Marian McPartland, pioneering female jazz pianist, dies at 95, it's new and fascinating. Sometimes they end up in the same place classic science fiction does, and I find that the most interesting of all.

4. Character driven science fiction Romance is nothing if not character driven. You have two very different people coming together, learning each other, and falling in love. The deep POV required for this mechanism to work also gives us a very internalized view into the specifics of the science fiction setting. In Cally has to deal with the imminent failure of the machine that drives every aspect of her life,Lebanese fire rockets at Israel, you feel her terror, her desire to wish it away, her shying away from everything changing forever. Instead of being told how bad it is, you experience it through her eyes.

3. New science fiction settings We all get accustomed to the same old settings. Space opera! In space. Ship drama! On a ship. Orbital habitat mystery! On a... you get the idea. is set on a world forgotten by its progenitors for a century. As it is brought back into the fold after 100 years of freedom, its psion-based culture is being systematically destroyed. Not only is this story a great take on the consequences of colonialism, it's hard to be inside the protagonist's head as her entire life is torn apart - ostensibly for her own good.

2. SFR embraces LGBT If it's hard to get a heterosexual relationship past they coupled in mainstream science fiction,GOLDEN TATE IN POSITION TO THRIVE, how much harder is it to get any sort of quality LGBT relationship? SFR does not have this problem. There is every sort of relationship you can think of at every heat level (a romance term for how much sex there is). In a high end thief meets her match in a woman who's supposed to be her next mark. 1. New science fiction readers = new science fiction writers We've been to other more profitable genres over the last ten years. . Getting science fiction a foot in that door is a win. More readers lead to more demand. More demand leads to more writing. More writing leads to new and interesting science fiction. In fact, I just beta read a lesbian space western. Hardbitten bounty hunter romances the daughter of a doctor on an old mining station. Can she tame her reckless ways and win the love of a good girl? Let me say it again: Lesbian. Space. Western. How cool is that?RelatedCyberpunk has fallen from its peak in the 1980s and early 1990s, but the great cyberpunk authors are still writing. Curiocity- Food Truck Feature — Taste Of Target Field

<html>(credit: CBS) With so many new ― and delicious ― food trucks hitting the streets of the Twin Cities each summer, it s almost too tough to keep up. Well, fear not, we re here to help. Here s this week s food truck feature! Admit it sometimes you re tempted to hit up a Twins game just for a ticket to the concession stands. It s OK. We ve all been there. Luckily, the Twins have been working on an idea to bring their incredible food offerings to you. The new Taste of Target Field food truck just hit the streets of Minneapolis on Monday, serving a variety of the delicious ballpark fare we all know and love. And they re not stopping with the food. The truck features an audio and video system that will broadcast Twins games whenever possible for a full interactive experience. Let s learn more about this Tasty Twins truck.

Find them at and . Owners: The Minnesota Twins Date the food truck opened: Aug. 26 What kind of food do you serve? The truck serves a variety of food from Target Field Kramarczuk s brats, helmet nachos, malt cups,Pakistan arrests 27 Indian fishermen for straying, hot dogs from Schweigert, chili from The Loon Cafe, a BBQ brisket sandwich, cheese curds, fries and soon, daily specials. Price range of menu: From about $4-$13. Hours of operation: Check their for updates. What made the Twins want to have a food truck? Well, they re hugely popular in the community so we re just kind of following that trend, said Chris Iles, senior manager of corporate communications for the Minnesota Twins. Also we wanted to take some of the signature items that we have at Target Field and instead of people coming to us at Target Field to get those items, we re coming out into the community so everyone can try them. (credit: CBS) Tell us a little more about the truck. What kind of features does it have? It s a pretty high-tech truck, Iles said. It does have the TV and at some point we ll be able to broadcast live Twins games from it, when it s allowed. It s also equipped to share the radio broadcast. How long has this been in the works? It s been in the works for about a couple years now, Iles said. It was a fairly long process to get the actual truck itself ready. I think the part that took the longest was getting it wrapped. It has tons of crazy graphics, even on top of it,MLB Rotation- Jeff Baker's September to remember, there s graphics so if a helicopter happens to fly over. How did you come up with the name? Really, that s the idea of everything, Iles said. (credit: CBS) What was your job before opening the food truck? Food Truck Manager Rob Delmont said before operating the Twins food truck, he was manning his own food truck (Messy Giuseppe) with his brother. He said when this opportunity came, he couldn t pass it up. I thought it would be a great opportunity and a lot of fun, he said. How did you decide on the menu? We did some of the staples the Kramarczuk s bratwurst is a huge seller and it s really good. We thought for on-the-go street eats, that would be perfect, Delmont said. We have the brisket sandwich, which is smoked at the field. They just decided on some of the things we can easily execute that s still really, really good stuff on the street. Down the road, we ll probably test some things here that could possibly be sold at Target Field. So there s a few things they want us to try, that we ll try here. We ve been bouncing around a Walleye Reuben, there s a couple different burgers, once we re comfortable with our food then we ll try some new stuff. (credit: CBS) The kitchen is pretty impressive, as well. Do you have everything on the truck? Yeah,Brandon Marshall- Chicago Bears give Brandon Marshall planned four days off, it s a full kitchen. It s better than some kitchens that I ve worked in at restaurants, Delmont said, with a laugh. Where can people find you? Our thing is Twins Territory and that spans pretty big. We d like to get out into the community and do some events here and there. Possibly run it during the Twins caravan, depending on the weather and the condition of the roads, Delmont said. (credit: CBS) Can fans find the truck at Target Field during home games? We re still working on that, Delmont said. Food trucks are supposed to stay within 500 feet of the stadium entrance so for now, we re abiding by that. We might pull it up for fun and give things out, things like that. But as far as a venue, we re going to abide by the rules and park at the spots we re supposed to be parking at. What s your best dish that you serve? I like the Kramarczuk s, both the bratwurst and the Hungarian. We have their seasoned sauerkraut, the actual recipe, and it s really good. It s really,[2], really good,Tampa Bay Buccaneers treat facility to prevent MRSA outbreak_0, Delmont said. (credit: CBS) Working in a food truck is quite a different environment. Have you had any crazy stories yet? Not yet, Delmont said. Though we did have we were setting up to go to an event and we had the back door open and Kent Hrbek was standing there. We were like, Hey! And he was like, This is really cool. I could work here. And we were like, Anytime, man. So that was cool. What s one thing you want people to know about this food truck? It s part of the Taste of Target Field, the food is really good, he said. If there are games, we ll have the games going. It ll be an interactive experience for everyone. Catch the every week, in the Curiocity column. Know of a food truck you think should be featured? Let us know by leaving a comment below or tweeting your suggestion to !</html>
