== Sony chief aims to slash $250M in movie costs ==
 +
 +
<html>A slasher made his way through Sony Corp.’s Hollywood studio Thursday, cutting huge holes in budgets and overturning business models ― leaving a decades-old free-spending way of life beaten and bloodied.
 +
 +
Wielding a cost-cutting cleaver, CEO Kazuo Hirai said he will cut $250 million in costs ― moves that will reduce the number of films produced each year by its movie divisions to about 18 from 23,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy nfl jerseys]</strong>, shift assets from film to TV production and even see more films made outside the pricey Los Angeles area.
 +
 +
“No cost is too sacred to cut,” said Michael Lynton,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, CEO of the entertainment unit.
 +
 +
The drastic, end-of-a-lifestyle changes to one of Hollywood’s most free-spending studios come after a number of box office bombs and pressure from shareholder activist Dan Loeb to spin off some entertainment assets, cut costs and for greater financial transparency.
 +
 +
While Loeb, founder of hedge fund Third Point, lost his bid to have assets spun off, he appears to be winning a war on the other counts.
 +
 +
As Hirai ticked off the cuts at a meeting in Sony’s Culver City,<b>[http://www.i-iida.net/comunity/guestbook/glight.cgi Madonna Named the World's Hig]</b>, Calif., lot,<b>[http://sibsolidarnost.ru/index.php?option=com_xijc&view=captcha Live Grenade Found At Oregon Thrift Shop]</b>, a host of Sony division heads, including Lynton,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>, looked on uncomfortably.
 +
 +
Movie boss Amy Pascal told the roughly 50 Wall Street analysts in attendance that the cost cuts could mean shrinking the summer movie releases of Sony’s studios ― Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Screen Gems ― to four from nine.
 +
 +
Lynton said the budget-cutting would result in a significant “shift from motion pictures to higher-margin television production and networks.” Sony Television produced the popular “Breaking Bad” series.
 +
 +
Management consultants Bain have been drafted to find $100 million in cost cuts. The studio has already parted ways with its marketing chief, its head of corporate communications and the head of movie publicity in the past few months.
 +
 +
Sony did manage to bring aboard a new high-priced communications executive, Charles Sipkins, to try to address the Loeb problem.
 +
 +
Third Point declined to comment on the presentation and did not appear at the event.
 +
 +
Separately, Loeb revealed yesterday that his fund has taken a more than $1 billion stake in SoftBank, which earlier this year made an unsuccessful bid for Universal Music Group.
 +
 +
On Wall Street, investors Friday didn’t appear smitten with the cuts. Sony’s ADRs traded down 1.2 percent in late morning trading, at $18.43.
 +
 +
If Sony is serious about its need to reduce its overhead, outsiders question the need for two bosses to oversee the motion picture group.
 +
 +
Lynton, who took most of the questions during the Q A session, and who was in contention for a senior role at Time Warner, may not relish the continued turmoil at the troubled consumer-electronics giant.
 +
 +
In addition to the more traditional cuts usually associated with an under-the-gun CEO, Hirai appears ready to over-deliver on the new austerity regime.
 +
 +
Among the CEO’s ideas is a money-saving move to replace grass on the studio lot with synthetic turf to save on maintenance, one source said.</html>

== Your Turn- Farm bill about cuts and reform ==
 +
 +
<html>On the more than 80,000 farms across our state, farmers worked around the clock to bring in a successful harvest. The wet spring that delayed planting, the dry summer that stressed crops, and the wet October that has hampered the harvest have not dealt them a perfect hand, but our farmers don?t make excuses. They just roll up their sleeves and get the job done.
 +
Congress could learn a lesson or two from our farmers as we work to finally pass a strong,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>, long-term farm bill. As a member of the Farm Bill Conference Committee responsible for crafting the final version of the legislation, I am committed to finding common ground and reaching an agreement that best serves Minnesota.
 +
End inactionI firmly believe that out of the chaos of the recent government shutdown comes an opportunity for progress on the farm bill. The American people are sick and tired of people standing in opposite corners of the boxing ring, swinging punches. They expect more, and they are demanding Congress work together for the good of our country.
 +
The bipartisan Senate-passed bill includes provisions that every American can rally behind. We can reduce our debt by $24 billion, secure the safety net for farmers by strengthening crop insurance programs, maintain our nutrition programs, and streamline and improve critical conservation programs that protect our environment.
 +
While the call to pass a farm bill is nothing new, this time, inaction is unacceptable. The one-year bill extension passed by Congress in 2012 expired Sept. 30, creating harmful uncertainty for farmers and ranchers nationwide.
 +
Worse yet,<b>[http://bbs.mfwlyx.com/home.php?mod=space&uid=797176 ]</b>, if a new bill is not passed by the end of this year, we would go back to the agriculture policy of 1949. Milk prices could double, farmers would lose safety-net programs and funding for critical conservation programs would be eliminated.
 +
Bill s benefitsIn the Senate, we passed a comprehensive, long-term bill that represents both compromise and reform. As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I was proud to help craft a bill that received strong bipartisan support with 66 senators voting for it.
 +
(Page 2 of 2)<br>The Senate bill strengthens the crop-insurance program, which is the most important risk-management tool for many farmers in Minnesota, and we funded the livestock disaster programs. We put in place a new safety net for dairy producers to address the wild volatility in the dairy market and continued the successful sugar program.
 +
The Senate bill includes funding for the energy title programs to expand homegrown renewable energy production while streamlining conservation programs from 23 down to 13. There are new initiatives for beginning farmers and ranchers including two of my provisions to reduce the cost of crop insurance for beginning farmers by 10 percent and making sure we help beginning ranchers access land for grazing.
 +
We also preserve the essential nutrition programs that millions of families and children rely on every day. While the Senate bill makes $4 billion in reductions,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>, our focus is on reforms that involve closing loopholes that do not affect Minnesota families and still ensure that hardworking families and seniors can buy groceries.
 +
Most importantly, the Senate farm bill cuts $24 billion from the nation?s debt and represents a genuine opportunity for common ground as we continue to work toward a long-term budget deal.
 +
Every American has a direct stake in the success of our farms and food businesses. Through the food we eat,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy nfl jerseys]</strong>,<b>[http://wiki.sdwu.edu.cn/index.php?title=%E7%94%A8%E6%88%B7:Xpbyggga5#Palin_to_sign_Christmas_book_at_Mall_of_America_on_Friday Palin to sign Christmas book at Mall of America on Friday]</b>, the water we drink, the fuel we use and the air we breathe. It is time for Congress to put aside the gridlock, work together and pass a bipartisan farm bill that moves our country forward.

== Vince Vaughn focuses on family ==
 +
 +
<html>LOS ANGELES In the new movie ?Delivery Man,? Vince Vaughn plays a sperm donor who learns he?s fathered more than 500 kids.
 +
In the past, that kind of scenario might have been the setup for a film with adult humor, given the actor?s portfolio. But ?Delivery Man? is decidedly family-friendly fare, and reflects the stage of life where the 43-year-old married father of two finds himself these days.
 +
?I think that this is a whole other level, in that the movie, in a real nonsentimental way, takes you on a journey. That is a little bit about family, sure ? connection,? he said recently. ?But also I think a little bit about accepting yourself, forgiving yourself. Being open to being who are, and having people accept you and interact with you, whatever that may be.?
 +
Vaughn, whose films have included ?Wedding Crashers,? ?Swingers,? ?Old School? and ?The Break-Up,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>,? married Kyla Weber in 2010 and the couple has a young son and daughter. When asked how fatherhood has changed him, he pointed to his relationship with Weber.
 +
?It?s made me realize for myself how important it is, my relationship with my wife,? he said. ?I think the best thing you can do, on some level, as a father is to love their mom. I think there?s something very simple in that, but it also really touches on a lot of different aspects.
 +
?It is very profound. My wife for example,<b>[http://www.nankaiya.co.jp/cgi/bbs/cbbs.cgi The first photos from ESPN th]</b>, just me and her,<b>[http://www.zhuoyuemeishu.com/bbs/home.php?mod=space&uid=78964 ]</b>, as I see that when I work it falls on her,? he added. ?I was fortunate, I took some time off and I?ve been able to be around. You realize how important it is to try to make sure that you?re taking time for each other. To have some fun and to connect. To laugh and do something that you both enjoy.?
 +
Vaughn, who is also in the next month?s ?Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>,? has been more involved behind the scenes,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, in the past, producing films such as ?Couples Retreat? and ?The Break-Up.? But now that he?s a dad, having his hand in multiple aspects of filmmaking isn?t a priority anymore.
 +
?I don?t know, it just depends. It was so fun to come and do another movie. I could just show up and be an actor and go home,? he said. ?(I) think with the kids now it is not as motivated necessarily.?</html>

== Mac Pro goes for $977,000 at charity auction ==
 +
 +
<html>One-off product designs created by Jony Ive and Marc Newson sold at a special (RED) charity auction at Sotheby’s in New York City over the weekend, with the pair’s four designs smashing all bidding estimates.
 +
 +
The Mac Pro, for example, was expected to fetch between $40,000 and $60,000 but ended up going under the hammer for almost a million – $977,000, to be precise. The auctioned model of Apple’s high-end powerhouse PC looks identical to the recently revamped model except for one difference – the color. The regular model, which goes on sale in December with a starting price of $3,000,<b>[http://www.yokota-inet.jp/media/index.php/%E5%88%A9%E7%94%A8%E8%80%85:Cjxpxxjk2 Google's India Strategy- One Teardrop At A Time- - Parallels]</b>, has a black exterior, whereas the auctioned model is red. Let’s hope Apple popped in a bit of extra memory for the buyer’s additional $974,000.
 +
 +
The solid gold Apple earbuds, meanwhile, were picked up for $461,000. Yes, $461,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>,000. These were expected to go for no more than $25,000.

'Very few people have the level of perfection we do. It is actually very sick.'- Designer Marc Newson
 +
 +
Then there was the specially designed Leica M for (RED) camera, a shooter featuring a laser-machined aluminum body and anodized aluminum outer shell. According to Leica, Ive and Newson went through 561 models and around 1,000 prototype parts before arriving at this final, unique design. This, too, smashed its estimated price of up to $750,000, with one very wealthy buyer handing over $1.8 million for a device that will more than likely stay locked away in a secure location rather than be seen hanging around the neck of a vacationer.
 +
 +
Even the pair’s one-off aluminum desk fetched way more than expected, with the highest bidder paying $1.68 million for a table top (with legs) that had been expected to go for between $300,000 and $500,000.
 +
 +
In an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this month, Ive and Aussie industrial designer Newson discussed their work, with Apple’s design guru quick to underline the importance of focusing on every single aspect of a design.
 +
 +
“We are both fanatical in terms of care and attention to things people don’t see immediately,” Ive said. “It’s like finishing the back of a drawer. Nobody’s going to see it, but you do it anyway. Products are a form of communication – they demonstrate your value system, what you care about.”
 +
 +
Newson added, “You discover that very few people have the level of perfection we do. It is actually very sick. It is neurotic.”
 +
 +
The charity auction, called Jony and Marc’s (RED) Auction,<b>[http://sk.wiki.niborea.com/wiki/Redaktor:Swnasjjs6#Ohio_State.27s_Meyer_says_BCS_.27a_flawed_system.27 Ohio State's Meyer says BCS 'a flawed system']</b>, included a bunch of other one-of-a-kind items – 44 in all – with the special event raising nearly $13 million for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

 +

== Why is Canada backing oil over other industries- ==
 +
 +
<html>The party was rudely interrupted by the commodities cycle. Even as hundred-buck cigars were being chomped at the Petroleum Club,<b>[http://bbs.gogoupc.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=21186 Guy punches girl on train, entire train then extracts some vigilante justice]</b>, oil prices went into free-fall, taking Dome Petroleum,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, Alberta’s oil and gas champ, down with them. The jobless rate hit 10 per cent and inward flow of workers from the rest of Canada reversed itself. A friend of mine handed his house keys to bank and hit the road – the mortgage exceeded the value of the property.
 +
I left too, with the first big lesson in macro-economics drilled into my beer-soaked brain: Beware one-product wonders. Economies that are tilted towards a single industry are accidents waiting to happen, just like single-crop farms.
 +
Three decades later, I wonder if Alberta – and Canada – have learned the risks of backing one industry at the expense of others. Exposing the Alberta economy, and to some extent the Canadian economy, to inevitable boom-bust commodity cycles is rather tedious and sporadically inflicts cruel damage on workers, bank loans and Canadian Tire sales.
 +
There are many more reasons not to like the oil sands. Excessive output of planet-warming carbon dioxide is, of course, one of them. It is beyond debate that producing oil from the oil sands is more energy intensive, and therefore CO2 intensive, than producing conventional oil. So let’s not debate it, other than to say that pumping out a lot of C02 to keep CO2-belching American SUVs on the road is morally as well as environmentally dubious.
 +
While Alberta is justifiably proud of developing technologies that can turn black guck into synthetic crude oil that can flow through a pipeline,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>, the other provinces have paid a steep price for Alberta’s success. The Canadian dollar is increasingly viewed as a petro currency as the oil industry expands. While economists will debate until their gums bleed about the degree of “petro” in the currency, there is no doubt the higher the oil and gas price, the higher the dollar. That’s bad for manufacturers and exporters.
 +
In 2002, the C-buck bottomed out at 61 cents U.S. In 2007, when oil was galloping towards $147 U.S. a barrel, it was worth a dime more than the greenback. The two dollars are now close to parity. While the strong Canadian dollar makes it cheaper for Canadian snowbirds to load up at Taco Bell in Florida, it has done no favours for industrial Canada, that is, Ontario and Quebec. Manufacturing jobs are disappearing at an alarming rate. While this trend is firmly in place in more than a few Western countries, a cheaper dollar would certainly have slowed the decline, if not prevented it.
 +
But won’t an oil bust cure the high-dollar disease? As the United States turns into a shale oil and gas gusher, oil prices could easily fall. But that scenario would not magically restore Canada’s manufacturing base. Once factories are dismantled, they tend not to get rebuilt. The Heinz ketchup plant in Leamington, Ont., which is on its way to tomato heaven,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>, along with 740 jobs, isn’t coming back even if the dollar falls by 50 per cent.
 +
It’s a wonder that the Canadian government has been so gung-ho on the ever-expanding oil sands given the industry’s obvious shortcomings – the environmental damage,<b>[http://www.niquess.com/indomaretmusik#comment-667593 Insights for indulging in the decadence of the season]</b>, the rising potential damage from boom-bust cycles and the creation of a petro currency. It seems like Stephen Harper Co. have decided that Canada has but one stand-out industry – oil sands – and that all policy will be skewed to work in that industry’s favour.
 +
Since oil sands growth and falling CO2 output are incompatible, Canada had no choice but to deliver the Kyoto accord on climate change to the blast furnace. Environmental assessment processes for energy projects have been made less burdensome for the industry. Even foreign policy has been skewed towards the oil sands. The lobbying effort to save the Keystone XL pipeline, which would provide a vast new outlet in the United States for Alberta’s oil output, and to prevent the European Union from discriminating against “dirty” Canadian oil, has been formidable. Imagine if that effort had gone to promoting other Canadian industries.
 +
In 50, even 25, years, Canadians will wonder why Alberta and the federal government devoted so much financial, political and regulatory capital to one industry, and a highly polluting one at that, while so much of corporate and industrial Canada received the B-list treatment. The wonder will intensify when the oil bust comes, and one will surely come.</html>

<html>GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) --  coach Mike McCarthy said the chances of  playing Thursday s Thanksgiving game at Detroit are slim to none.

Rodgers, who suffered a broken left collarbone Nov. 4 against Chicago,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>, has not played since.

Including their 27-20 loss to the Bears, in which  took over for the injured Rodgers, the Packers are 0-3-1 without their star quarterback.

(I) had a meeting with Aaron. He would like to go (against the Lions), McCarthy said Monday.

Frankly, based on the information where we are as far as the conversation with Aaron, the conversation with the medical staff, I would say he s slim to none, to give you what I m thinking. That s where we are.

When reminded of that Monday, McCarthy said, Well, it s more than that. Let s be honest, he s got to practice. There s some physical rehab hurdles to get through that he hasn t reached yet. Like I said, it would be a huge stretch for him to play in this game.
 +
McCarthy said Rodgers would have to practice on Wednesday, before the team departs for Detroit, to have any chance of playing Thursday at Ford Field.

Asked if he might have to protect Rodgers from himself, McCarthy said, Well, I think that s always the case when you re dealing with Aaron. The Packers will practice Tuesday and McCarthy said he intends to get both Flynn and Tolzien ready to start against the Lions if Rodgers can t go.
 +
We ve got to get two quarterbacks ready, frankly. This experience that we ve gone through the last four weeks with a different quarterback in four straight games, we re taking a hard look at our preparation, McCarthy said. Who has the ball at the beginning of the game, we ll let you know down the line. I have no announcements on that yet today.

After taking over for an injured Wallace against the Eagles on Nov. 11, Tolzien had completed 55 of 90 passes (61.1 percent) for 717 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions before being benched in favor of Flynn on Sunday.

It was very disappointing to me. I felt like I m an accurate quarterback, said Tolzien, who scored on a 6-yard run that gave the Packers a 7-0 lead but completed just 7 of 17 passes for 93 yards before being replaced.

Flynn, who was Rodgers backup from 2008 through 2011 before signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent in March 2012, said he will be ready regardless of how many practice snaps he gets on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Before Sunday s game, Flynn said he had taken eight reps - four each week - with the starters in practice.

I don t know what s going to happen, but I ll be ready no matter if I take 0 percent, 50 percent, 100 percent of the reps, Flynn said. I ll be ready to roll. I think I ve developed the skill of improving myself without taking reps. We ll see what happens.

== Dodgers finalize one 2 ==
 +
 +
<html>LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers confirmed the signing of free-agent right-hander Dan Haren to a one-year contract on Monday, but general manager Ned Colletti said that doesn't close the door on acquiring another starting pitcher.
 +
 +
Haren, 33, is viewed as a short-term, cost-efficient replacement to free agent Ricky Nolasco (who is seeking a five-year deal) in the back of a rotation that already boasts defending National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, former American League Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu.
 +
 +
Josh Beckett is expected to be ready for the start of Spring Training after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome,<b>[http://www.flypower-arbi.com/index.php/component/k2/item/105-bwf-world-senior-championships-2013-wakil-indonesia-melaju-ke-babak-semifinal Florida Republican Rep. Radel]</b>, and Chad Billingsley should be ready around May after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. All are former All-Stars except Ryu, who just completed his first Major League season after seven consecutive All-Star seasons in Korea.
 +
 +
But with Kershaw one year from free agency, David Price on the trade block and Japan's Masahiro Tanaka possibly available soon, Colletti said the signing of Haren doesn't mean the Dodgers are necessarily done adding starting pitchers.
 +
 +
"If something comes our way,<b>[http://canped.com/content/us-sell-rest-gm-shares-year U.S. to sell rest of GM shares by year]</b>, we'll take a look at it," said Colletti. "We like the four we have, but we won't close the door. We hope to get Josh and Chad back, but right now we don't have them. Remember, last year we came out of Spring Training with eight and we needed a ninth three weeks in."
 +
 +
Haren said he wasn't thinking about competing for a starting job.
 +
 +
"They brought me in to pitch and be one of their five starters," Haren said. "I'm not worried about who is coming back and when they're coming back. I'm going to take the job and run with it."
 +
 +
Haren lives in the same Orange County development as hitting coach Mark McGwire, played at Malibu's Pepperdine University and was willing to take a short-term deal to play near home. He picked the brain of former Angels teammate Greinke about playing for the Dodgers, learning all about Greinke's Silver Slugger Award prowess and fantasy football trades in the process.
 +
 +
"Greinke said the team has amazing talent second to none, stars at every position, a great atmosphere at the stadium," Haren said.
 +
 +
Colletti praised Haren's track record, consistency and makeup. He signed Haren for $10 million in 2014 with $3 million in incentives and a '15 option that vests if he pitches 180 innings. Haren said the escalating salaries for pitchers (which he called "ridiculous") were fueled by Tim Lincecum's two-year, $35 million contract,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>, and Haren's market heated up as soon as Tim Hudson signed.
 +
 +
Haren said he might have been able to get a second year guaranteed elsewhere, "but the Dodgers are a good fit for me. At this point in my career, the priority is winning now. Money aside, this worked out for me."
 +
 +
However, Haren does come with some flaws. In 2013, he was 10-14 with a 4.67 ERA with the Nationals, signing as a free agent after going 12-13 and posting a 4.33 ERA with the Angels in '12.
 +
 +
He was 4-9 with a 6.10 ERA in late June this year when he went on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Haren lost his first two decisions after returning, running his losing streak to eight, but won his next four decisions and six of the last nine. His second-half ERA was 3.52, but of his 30 starts in 2013, only one was as long as eight innings and six were shorter than five innings.
 +
 +
Haren blamed his first-half problems on pitch execution, not the shoulder, saying he gave up too many home runs. His second-half improvement resulted from focusing on keeping pitches down and in the park.
 +
 +
"I found my groove again," he said.
 +
 +
He said he felt as good physically at season's end as he did all year and had no problem with back and hip issues that plagued him in 2012.
 +
 +
In 2011, Haren was 16-10 with a 3.17 ERA for the Angels. He came to Anaheim in the July 2010 trade with Arizona that included Patrick Corbin, now perhaps the D-backs' top starter.
 +
 +
The signing of Haren also preserves the flexibility of opening a rotation spot for an internal prospect like Zack Lee or Ross Stripling in coming years, another stated goal of a franchise determined to rebuild its player development system and not rely on free agents. Consider Atlanta, where Dodgers president Stan Kasten enjoyed his greatest success, as the model, especially when it comes to a loaded starting rotation.
 +
 +
Haren was an All-Star from 2007-09, when he was an innings-eating strike thrower. His best season in Arizona was '09, when he went 14-10 with a 3.14 ERA and an NL-leading 1.00 WHIP. He's never won a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger Award, but he handles the bat and fields his position in the same athletic manner as Kershaw and Greinke.
 +
 +
Haren came to the D-backs in a December 2007 trade from Oakland that included All-Star Carlos Gonzalez. Three years earlier,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>, he was traded to Oakland by St. Louis in a deal that included Mark Mulder. Haren was a second-round Draft pick by the Cardinals in '01.</html>

== What Boomers Can Be Thankful for This Year ==
 +
 +
<html>Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a time of reflection and feasting. It’s when families and friends come together to dine on turkey, stuffing and all sorts of pies, and remember what we are thankful for. And boomers have a lot to be thankful for this year.
 +
 +
I am thankful for my grandson: For the smile on his face, for the feel of his arms holding me tightly and for the peace I see in his face when he sleeps.
 +
 +
The ability to spend time with family is the most important thing to be thankful for not just this time of year, but all year round.
 +
 +
As a generation, we have brought about major changes to society, the workplace and our economy, but the importance of family has always remained at our core. We are even changing the retirement game: Some of us are settling into retirement,<b>[http://chubundousoukai.sakura.ne.jp/honey/jinjika.cgi Amanda Bynes ruled competent ]</b>, some are gearing up for it and others have no plans to leave the workforce.
 +
 +
So,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, what should baby boomers be thankful for in 2013?
 +
 +
Cal Brown, financial advisor and the market manager at Savant Capital Management, McLean, Va. offered his view on some positive economic news for the boomer generation that came out this year. He identified energy, technology, low inflation and low interest rates, housing rebound and corporate earnings as economic bright spots for boomers.
 +
 +
Here is what Brown had to say on each topic:
 +
 +
Energy: In the 1970s,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap baseball jersey]</strong>, it was the general consensus that we would run out of oil sometime in the next century and OPEC would have the developed nations at its mercy, forcing prices higher and higher. Now, early in this new century, new discoveries and new technology have created the very real possibility of American energy independence. Prices have been coming down, and that bodes well for boomers who have already retired and are on a fixed income as well as those still working and saving for retirement. Less spending on gasoline and other energy items means more cash available for savings and investments. In addition, lower oil prices bode well for the manufacturing renaissance America is enjoying
 +
 +
Technology: The innovations in technology continue to amaze us and add to our quality of life. Boomers can Skype and Facebook with their kids and grandchildren, no matter where they are located in the world. And the cost of staying in touch is minimal compared to what long-distance telephone rates used to cost us. We are quite familiar with smartphones and tablets to help better communicate and stay up to date with the latest news and trends.
 +
 +
And of these technological advancements have no only increased boomers’ quality of life, they also bring more jobs and more investment possibilities.
 +
 +
Low Inflation and Interest Rates: The silent and deadly killer of retirement living is inflation. We experienced amazingly high inflation in the late 70s early 80s,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy nfl jerseys]</strong>, and it is a longevity risk that can deplete one’s life savings and destroy an investment portfolio. Low inflation means more boomers have less risk of running out of money before they run out of life. While many decry the low interest rates banks and money market funds are paying on savings accounts, they should keep in mind that the interest rate on cash equivalents has always been low! That is, when interest rates are high, inflation is also high; when those rates are adjusted for inflation, historically that rate has been in the range of 1%. The Feds actions have essentially forced investors into higher- risk financial assets, which is one reason the stock markets have been doing so well for the last four-and-a-half years. And that of course helps 401(k) balances.
 +
 +
Also, low interest rates help borrowers, and that helps with housing.
 +
 +
Housing Rebound: House prices are recovering around the country (some areas better than other) but still better than five years ago. This makes it easier for boomers to downsize if they want to and be able to sell their home at a higher price. And, depending on where their new house is located, they could benefit from a bit of arbitrage if the prices in their new location have not increased as rapidly. But even if there is no arbitrage possibility, the psychic benefit of selling at a higher price than a few years ago is a positive.
 +
 +
Corporate Earnings: Fundamentally, a company’s stock price is a function of future expected profits. Corporate earnings continue to meet or beat expectations and that is the other reason (beside the Fed) that the stock market has continued to climb to record levels. Dividends and earnings provide a realistic "floor" to any stock’s price; it makes the stock price realistic. The well-known Price/Earnings (P/E) ratio is fairly valued, according to historical averages. As stock prices (the numerator) have been increasing,<b>[http://plkn.talk4fun.net/viewthread.php?tid=57332&extra= Photo recap- 'Bubble Gang in space' episode]</b>, company earnings (the denominator) have also been rising. Thus, the P/E ratio has remained realistic and not "frothy." If prices had been rising without earnings also climbing, then the market would be over-valued.
 +
 +
Pensions are rapidly becoming a dinosaur (unless you work for the government, a union, or a very large corporation) and now 401(k)s and IRAs have become more important than ever. Boomers, unlike their parents’ generation, must self-fund their retirement, in addition to Social Security. That puts a tremendous responsibility on boomers, but it also has a significant benefit if they do it well. That is, a pension dies when the pensioner dies; however, an IRA or 401(k) can be inherited by the next generation….and they’re going to need it.</html>

“Thirty years ago my family and I were given a wonderful opportunity to move to the Seattle area and become associated with the Seattle Mariners,” Armstrong said in a statement. “We quickly grew to love this community and this team. Through all the good times and the not-so-good times on the field since 1984, the goal always has been to win the World Series. My only regret is that the entire region wasn’t able to enjoy a parade through the City to celebrate a World Championship together.
 +

“After much thought and reflection, it is now time for me to retire and enjoy as much time as possible with my wife Susan and our family. Riley Johnson plays for the Minnesota Magic, a national power soccer team that practices in Monticello. There are about 50 power chair soccer teams in the nation.
 +
Johnson learned about the world championship last spring.
 +
He submitted a video and was interviewed before being chosen as one of the six athletes for Team USA.
 +
The team met once in September for a three-day training camp. Then they played in Paris.
 +
?I?m amazingly proud,? Kim Johnson said. ?He?s a leader on the court. I?m proud of his abilities.?

== Boris Johnson- Economic Inequality Is Good ==
 +
 +
<html>BBC video screengrab
 +
Economic inequality has become a hot topic recently, with Pope Francis becoming &nbsp;speak out about the growing trend.
 +
 +
Last night, however,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy nfl jerseys]</strong>, another big name expressed a very different viewpoint that economic inequality can be good, and some people just aren't clever enough to succeed.
 +
 +
Boris Johnson, the right wing Conservative party's Mayor of London, was talking at the Centre for Policy Studies in London,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>, a neo-liberal free-market think tank. The speech was titled "What Would Maggie do Today?" but the section that caught the most attention today only dealt indirectly with Margaret Thatcher.&nbsp;Instead, it focused on what Johnson saw as the link between IQ and economic success.
 +
 +
Here's the  [emphasis ours]:
 +
 +
Like it or not,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, the free market economy is the only show in town. Britain is competing in an increasingly impatient and globalised economy, in which the competition is getting ever stiffer.
 +
 +
No one can ignore the harshness of that competition, or the inequality that it inevitably accentuates; and I am afraid that violent economic centrifuge is operating on human beings who are already very far from equal in raw ability, if not spiritual worth.
 +
 +
Whatever you may think of the value of IQ tests, it is surely relevant to a conversation about equality that as many as 16 per cent of our species have an IQ below 85, while about 2 per cent have an IQ above 130. [According to the Guardian, Johnson  in the audience had a low IQ. To muted laughter he asked: "Over 16% anyone? Put up your hands."]&nbsp; The harder you shake the pack,<b>[http://www.kejijiaoyi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=728127&fromuid=296473 Brittany Murphy's mom says dad's conspiracy theories over actress' d]</b>, the easier it will be for some cornflakes to get to the top.
 +
 +
And for one reason or another boardroom greed or, as I am assured, the natural and god-given talent of boardroom inhabitants - the income gap between the top cornflakes and the bottom cornflakes is getting wider than ever. I stress: I don t believe that economic equality is possible; indeed, some measure of inequality is essential for the spirit of envy and keeping up with the Joneses that is,<b>[http://strassner-kanzlei.de/index.php?title=Benutzer:Tgrvixzg5#Tarpon_Springs_High_marching_band_ready_for_Macy.E2.80.99s_Tha Tarpon Springs High marching band ready for Macy’s Tha]</b>, like greed, a valuable spur to economic activity.
 +
 +
Johnson nonetheless called for a more meritocratic society that may lead to some reduction in economic inequality. He announced his support of plans for a return of selective state schools and more state-funded scholarships for academically successful students to attend private schools.
 +

Johnson's assertion that IQ was linked with success and his implication that economic inequality could act as a spur to the talented prompted the biggest response amongst the British left. The left-wing tabloid the Daily Mirror  in an article titled "Boris Johnson: Millions of people too STUPID to get on in life":

This shows how out of touch the Conservatives if they think it is acceptable to write off the life chances of millions of their fellow citizens.

In the Guardian, Dean Burnett&nbsp;&nbsp;is, by design, a relative figure, and that links between IQ and personal wealth have found little to no correlation.

What's perhaps most interesting about Johnson's comments is that Johnson is a remarkably savvy populist politician, and one who is rumored to have big ambitions to one day be the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. If he says things like this in a public speech, chances are he believes that a large section of the voting public agree with him.</html>

More than any other NFL team,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy cheap nfl jerseys]</strong>, it seems like the  take odd pleasure in making everything difficult.

On Thursday they fumbled the opening kickoff and the Raiders returned it for a touchdown. They disappeared during the second quarter, and were stuck on zero yards for the quarter until the final two minutes.  had a nice 25-yard catch to set up a huge touchdown before the end of the half, but not before fumbling two plays before it. Luckily the Cowboys recovered.
 +
Dallas finally came alive after falling behind 21-7 at home to the Raiders, who are now 4-8. That touchdown before the end of the first half was huge for momentum. A Brandon Carr interception in the end zone on a terrible decision and awful throw by Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin in the fourth quarter and the long time-eating drive that followed sealed the win.
 +
Dallas won 31-24. But, as usual, the Cowboys couldn't do it the easy way.
 +
&nbsp;
 +
The Cowboys are 7-5, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Their only win against a winning team yet this season is against the 6-5 Eagles. The Dallas defense is well on its way to being the worst in the history of the franchise. Dallas is a half-game ahead of Philadelphia in the NFC East and has a good chance to host a playoff game in the first weekend of the playoffs, but do Cowboys fans trust them to win it if it happens?
 +
What gives Dallas hope is the offense,<b>[http://www.globalhealthdelivery.org/blog/2013/11/young-professionals-salute-murthy-nomination-as-u-s-surgeon-general/#comment-347074 Poor countries need help tackling climate change, London says]</b>, which took a while to get going against the Raiders but eventually buried them.  wasn't spectacular but he was efficient,<b>[http://www.richdadcn.com/space.php?uid=66124&do=blog&id=1004078 Letters to the editor- Filibuster vote a necessary]</b>, completing 23-of-32 passes for 225 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He has been fantastic all season,<strong>[http://nuggetventures.com/nfl-jerseys.html where to buy nfl jerseys]</strong>, and Dez Bryant provides him one of the best targets in the league.

If the Cowboys do make the playoffs C and that's no sure thing with a schedule of at Chicago, vs. Green Bay, at Washington and vs. Philadelphia remaining C the offense will be in charge of keeping them competitive in that first-round game. If Romo is on,<strong>[http://reverselogistics.in/news-sep-16.asp cheap basketball jersey]</strong>, a playoff win is possible.
 +
We'll see if the Cowboys earn that playoff berth over the final month of the regular season. If nothing else, they'll keep it interesting.

Vereb the favorite for Montgomery County GOP Committee chair

<html>NORRISTOWN --— The Dec. 4 election for a new Montgomery County Republican Committee chairman currently has just one candidate, state Rep. Mike Vereb, R-Dist. 150. “Robert Adshead is not going to run. (Montgomery County Commissioner) Bruce (Castor Jr.) said he will support Vereb,” said John Keleman, the executive director of the Montgomery County Republican Committee. “It looks like this will not be a contested convention.” The special election was scheduled after Chairman Robert Kerns resigned this week amid accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman in October. A Montgomery County grand jury investigation into the allegations against Kerns could last two weeks or more, according to a source. A simple majority vote of the committee members present is required to elect a new chair, Keleman said. “Right now we have just shy of 760 committee people. At our last countywide endorsement convention we had 650 people there,” he said. “The person elected will serve from Dec. 4 until May or June 2014. There is a reorganization meeting after the May 20, 2014 primary. The committee people are elected at the primary election in every gubernatorial election year. Then they elect a chairman for a four year term.” Keleman said he expected a short meeting because the election will be the only piece of business. “The process of checking in the committee people is the most time-consuming part of the process, cheap baseball jersey,” he said. Castor said he “absolutely” supports Vereb for the chairman’s post. “I had heard Kate Harper was interested, along with Robert Griffith from Abington and Robert Adshead. After I announced my support for Vereb privately, Harper and Adshead withdrew from the race,” Castor said. “I heard that Dr. Griffiths will withdraw from the race. “This man has been able to bring together all the warring factions in the Republican party,” Castor added. “He has my personal and professional respect. Evidently he has Bob Asher’s support and Vahan Gureghian.” Castor was frank about the internecine warfare that has typified the county Republican Party for several years. “I believe this will head off a bloody convention and begin the healing process to bring all the factions together,” he said. “The only way this is going to work is if we stop trying to kill each other.” Follow Carl Rotenberg on Twitter @CarlWriter.</html>

Controversial call helps secure Panthers' victory over Patri

<html>CHARLOTTE, N.C. ― The Carolina Panthers won the game, 24-20, and the moment against the New England Patriots during Monday Night Football, but one of the biggest victories in the organization's history wasn't without controversy.

On the game's final play, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw a bullet into the end zone, but tight end Rob Gronkowski was being manhandled by Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly. A flag was thrown,Casual sex leaves many women unsatisfied

Kuechly faceguarded Gronkowski, but the Patriots tight end never made a real strong play on the ball. It's hard to say what his chances of catching a game-winning touchdown would have been because, quite frankly, Kuechly never game him a chance. And neither did the officials.
The Panthers' offense stood on the sideline and watched Brady, where to buy nfl jerseys, with 59 seconds left, threaten the upset.
"We've seen it over and over and over again," said Panthers receiver Steve Smith. "When you see it, you really hope you're not that team and we're not that team."

That team, among countless others, that Brady has carved up.
He seemed well on his way this time, too.
Brady hit Gronkowski for a 23-yard gain. He found Danny Amendola across the middle for an 11-yard gain. A pass interference penalty gave the Patriots yet another chance, putting the ball on the Panthers' 36-yard line. Brady connected twice more, to Shane Vereen and Aaron Dobson. With three seconds left, Brady took his final shot.

A minute earlier, cheap baseball jersey, Cam Newton had put the Panthers up with an 85-yard drive, but he wasn't comfortable.
"Too much time was left," Newton said. "I was nervous. I've seen this story before. I've read this book before. It was a very close call."
Some might call it atrocious.
IYER:

"When your back's to the ball, you just have to try and read his eyes and hands," Kuechly explained. "I just knew they picked (the flag) up and I was happy about it."
Earlier this season, a pass interference committed by Kuechly against the Buffalo Bills helped cost the Panthers a victory. This time, he got away with a penalty that appeared more egregious.
Gronkowski said, "That's not where the game is won or lost," but that's not entirely true. "We don't make excuses. I'm not trying to sit here and make an excuse that he held me at the end of the game. The game is four quarters long. It's won throughout all four quarters, not just the last plays of the game. . . . They're a good football team. They scored more points than us and they beat us straight up."
Patriots coach Bill Belichick was understandably short in his reaction.
"There was no explanation given to me," he said. "The officials ran off the field. The last time I started asking an official about a call, that was the wrong thing to do, so I have no idea."
Referee Clete Blakeman eventually gave his explanation .
"There were two officials that came in. One was the umpire and the other one was our side judge and there was a discussion at that point as to the, in essence, the catchability of the ball due to its location," Blakeman was quoted as saying. "So it was determined at that point in time that when the primary contact occurred on the tight end that the ball, in essence, was coming in underthrown and in essence it was immediate at that point intercepted at the front end of the end zone. So there was a determination that, in essence, uncatchability, that the ball was intercepted at or about the same time the primary contact against the receiver occurred."</html>

Oregon wine producer pushes 'beerification' of wine

Leamington’s Heinz farmers- ‘There is life after tomatoes

<html>“I’m going to be left with a barn full of tomato equipment that I have no idea what I’m going to do with. There’s going to be millions of dollars’ worth of machinery that will just sit and rust” at farms in the region, said Mr. Brown, who says he has about $500,cheap baseball jersey,000 worth of specialized machinery. Instead of tomatoes, he will plant grains or seed corn, crops that are easier to grow but less profitable. Heinz opened the plant in Southern Ontario more than a century ago,Prosecutors- Radel a 'routine' cocaine user, drawn to the Leamington area for its long growing season, sandy soil and light rains that provide the rare conditions needed to grow field tomatoes. The town became known as Canada’s Tomato Capital for good reason – Heinz has contracts with more than 40 area farms to buy 40 per cent of Ontario’s 500,000-tonne tomato crop. “Heinz and Leamington are one and the same,” said Herb Enns, a retired farmer who grew tomatoes for Heinz for 35 years. Farmers say other large buyers of tomatoes in the region – including Sun-Brite Foods Inc. and ConAgra Foods, which makes Hunt’s tomato sauce and Chef Boyardee – are not keen to take on new growers, preferring to give any new business to their current contractors. Jean-Marie Laprise says he is one of the lucky ones. Just 10 per cent of his greenhouse output is the young tomato plants bought by local Heinz growers; and the rest includes lettuce, broccoli and other vegetables that that will end up in supermarkets. But he said there are few ways to replace the tomato plant business in an industry in which prices have fallen by 30 per cent over the past three decades as farm yields have soared. “Our tomato acreage is a very small percentage of our business but it’s a significant percentage of our labour requirements and gross income because it’s a high-value crop,” said Mr. Laprise, who has grown tomatoes for Heinz for 40 years and supplied greenhouse transplants for 23 years. “We are going to take our financial blows and move on to other things,” he said. “There is life after tomatoes. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to take a financial hit on assets and look to refocus to see how we replace the income, or just do without it.” Mr. Laprise said he received word of the Heinz plant shutdown last week in an e-mail from Heinz that was followed by a letter couriered to his farm near Chatham, Ont., shortly after spreading fertilizer on his field for next year’s crop. Like most growers for Heinz, the work for next year’s crop is well under way: Growing beds have been shaped and strips of barley planted to keep the loose soil from blowing away while the new tomato plants grow. Farmers say they want compensation from Heinz for the cancellation of their contracts and the work they already put into next year’s crop. Heinz spokesman Michael Mullen in an e-mail on Wednesday would not comment, other than to say Heinz will continue to invest in the plant in St. Marys, Ont., that will pick up some of the Leamington production for Canada. For Mr. Enns and other long-time farmers in the area, cheap basketball jersey, it’s not the first time a large food processor has pulled up stakes and left them to find new crops and new buyers. Snap beans, sweet corn, tomatoes and pickles – Mr. Enns has grown them all for large canners and processors over the years, only to watch them quit the area. He said farmers will find a way to adjust, even though it might not be easy. “They’ll take it on the chin and they’ll try to grow another crop,Of Dodgers' off, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys,” Mr. Enns said.</html>

Why being a passenger drives me to distraction

<html>I could have rented a car. The Pacific Coast Highway is a sublime stretch of road that never fails to impress and San Francisco’s hills offer a nice challenge, but something told me it was time to give the driving a rest and besides, where to buy nfl jerseys, it was clear that being the driver would significantly lessen the amount of time I could spend eating seafood and washing it down with California vino. So I decided to leave the driving to others and saw NorCal from the passenger side and from the back seat. And boy did it stink. Don’t get me wrong – the other drivers were fine, competent and skilled,The Redskins and Giants are probably going to play on ‘, and the scenery was lovely. My displeasure says more about me as control-freak than it does about those around me. Decades of being the one behind the wheel have turned me into the creature I’ve always despised – a malcontent passenger. I’m the guy pumping his right foot on the imaginary pedal and coiling up when my senses tell me we’re getting too close to the rear bumper of the car in front of us. I’m the idiot who won’t let his wife drive (correction: the idiot who somehow manages to work things so his wife doesn’t drive). It’s a compulsion and not one of which I’m proud. It turns out I may suffer from amaxophobia – the fear of riding in a car as a passenger. It affects mostly men but the occasional female can also be afflicted. Do you answer “yes” to any of the following questions? When in the passenger seat do you: 1.) Experience a heightened state of agitation accompanied by a sense of impending doom? 2.) Feel the irresistible urge to play with the radio? 3.) Adjust your passenger side mirror and make frequent shoulder checks? 4.) Exploit it by eating as much and as messily as you can? 5.) Feeling deprived as you stare covetously at all the luxury cars? 6.) Talk incessantly about how much driving stinks and how willing you are to drive? 7.) Ask the driver to pull over. Get out of the car and just start walking? If so, you may already be suffering from amaxophobia. Like many people who feed a compulsion, amaxophobic drivers are master manipulators. One key strategy for ensuring that you are always the one behind the wheel is to convince all those around you how horrible driving can be. That means calling attention to statistics or news stories that report the negative effects of commuting. If you see a story showing that driving is bad for your blood pressure (it is), tweet it immediately and send it out to friends and co-workers as an e-mail blast. If you’re married, in a committed relationship or merely killing time with someone you thought you liked, cheap basketball jersey, be sure to compliment that person on being a great navigator. Even if you don’t need directions, ask for them and after receiving them, say something like, “Wow babe, what a great navigator you are. You have an amazing sense of direction!” Secrecy is also a big part of amaxophobia. You need to hide the fact that, by always being the one driving (especially if you have children), you are getting out of a myriad of crappy jobs and duties. Ask yourself this question: In a couple, which person is responsible for juggling iPads, cheap baseball jersey, doling out food, reading books, leading cheerful songs,What's it like to help others learn English in Central Minne, all forms of discipline, being responsible for you getting lost and talking to you to keep you awake? Here’s a hint: It’s not the guy who says, “I can’t do it – I’m driving.” When driving, all you have to do is keep your eyes on the road and maintain supreme control over the sound system. And when the drive is over everyone thanks you for doing a good job. Nobody ever thanks the passenger. Nobody ever says: “Way to sit.” I managed to get through my California weekend. Consider it exposure therapy. I now know I can be in the passenger seat and keep my sanity and identity intact. The flight home was a breeze. After all, as confident as I am in my skills I know that flying an Airbus is beyond my grasp. After going through customs, I got in my car. It was late and the highway was free of traffic, or at least as free of traffic as it ever gets. I put the radio on and cracked the window. It felt good to cruise through the darkness past the condo lights and garish billboards. I was once again in the driver’s seat. Public editor- Careful what you call a ‘miracle’

<html>Kathryn Hayward, cheap basketball jersey, acting editor of Life and Arts (which includes the Health page) said the print headline referred “to one man’s miraculous change from being immobile to training for the Ironman. We aren’t saying it’s a miracle cure. We’re saying his recovery is remarkable. It’s unfortunate if it’s deemed misleading. We never want to give false hope to patients.” I would say that both headlines (print and the initial online) were a step too far. While the man profiled in the story has seen his health improve remarkably, the term “miracle” was hyperbole. Questions were raised by Gary Schwitzer, the publisher of ,AP Top News at 4-19 a.m. EST, a group that reviews news stories. I agree with Mr. Schwitzer that the article could have been more balanced. The Globe article properly included the synopsis of the study into the new treatment of spinal arthritis in the medical journal Arthritis and Rheumatism, which said that patients on TNF-inhibitors were much less likely to deteriorate than those taking other medicines. But the article failed to include a more skeptical view expressed in the same journal, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys, which said the results of this study should be interpreted with caution. The Globe article also did not refer to side effects or the cost of the drug. Michael Posner, cheap baseball jersey, The Globe article’s author,Army PR Plan- Average Women L, said he understands the cost is in the thousands, but many provincial drug plans cover it (although only for specific indications). On the question of the more skeptical view expressed in an editorial in the journal, Mr. Posner said he would be careful not to rush to judgment. “There are competing views and the details are highly complex.” I have no doubt of the complexity and I am not an expert in medical research and would be in no position to assess such work. I think that is all the more reason why readers should be told of competing views and given all the information so they can know whether to raise the possibility of medical treatments or medications with their own doctors. "It's not unusual for pilots who aren't familiar with Wichita to mistake Jabara for McConnell, said Steve Stowe, a former chief pilot and manager of flight operations at Boeing in Wichita. Stowe is now a senior engineering test pilot for Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita. ...
"When he was at Boeing, cheap basketball jersey, 'we mentioned this issue to visiting pilots in our local area briefing guide,' he said.
"The runways at McConnell and Jabara are ... in close alignment and nearly parallel. That could cause a pilot to see Jabara before McConnell, he said."
According :
"The crew had flown into an area where there are three airports with similar runway configurations: the Air Force base, the Jabara airfield and a third facility in between called Beech Airport.
That could help explain the mistake. Pilots also say it can be tough to tell a long runway from a shorter one on final approach. And Jabara is directly on the path toward McConnell, so the only difference would be that a pilot on final approach would reach it a little sooner."
:
" 'It [even] happens in good weather when an airport is spotted miles away,' says Captain Tom Bunn, retired airline pilot and licensed therapist who founded SOAR, which helps people overcome their fear of flying. While he's not involved in the investigation of the Boeing incident, Bunn says typically with scenarios like this the first airport to come into view may not be the right airport.
" 'This is the same as you come from shopping and look for your car. Occasionally you approach a car and then realize, though it looks the same as yours, it isn't yours.' "
And it might have been a case of "expectancy error":
"Cockpit instruments and navigation devices should have made it clear to the pilots they were at the wrong airport, said David Esser, a professor of aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach, Florida, campus.
"Sometimes pilots may be led astray by what is known as an 'expectancy error,' he said. In this case, both airports have runways running in the same direction.
" 'In their minds,5 Financial Lessons from Retirees, they are thinking our airport has a north-south runway, and there is a north-south runway,' he said. 'So, therefore, that must be our airport.' "</html>

Weather watch- Thanksgiving travel 2013

<html>PIX11 WEATHER CENTER (PIX11) -- A potential coastal storm on the busy travel day before Thanksgiving could take two paths, computer models tell us.

One model suggests that the storm will hug the coastline and dump significant amounts of rain on the tri-state area. At this point, the PIX11 Weather Center is? leaning toward a rainy event with no snow from Tuesday night into Wednesday. We ll have updates as soon as we get them.

In the near term, clouds will thicken as a cold front starts to move into the Ohio Valley Thursday night. A few rain showers well ahead of the system could arrive in the city well after midnight. Temperature will not be as cool,[4], with lows in the mid 40s.

While Friday could feature a few showers, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys,? it will not be a wash out in any sense. The cold front will move through early Saturday morning. Skies will gradually clear out and winds will pick up from the northwest. Temperatures will be cooler with highs in the mid 40s. Wind chills will make it feel more like the 30s.

Another cold front will bring a few snow showers, along with a reinforcing shot of arctic air on Sunday. Temperatures will only make it into the 30s; however winds will be very gusty from the northwest at around 20-30 mph, cheap baseball jersey, making it feel more like the teens.

Sony chief aims to slash $250M in movie costs

<html>A slasher made his way through Sony Corp.’s Hollywood studio Thursday, cutting huge holes in budgets and overturning business models ― leaving a decades-old free-spending way of life beaten and bloodied.

Wielding a cost-cutting cleaver, CEO Kazuo Hirai said he will cut $250 million in costs ― moves that will reduce the number of films produced each year by its movie divisions to about 18 from 23,where to buy nfl jerseys, shift assets from film to TV production and even see more films made outside the pricey Los Angeles area.

“No cost is too sacred to cut,” said Michael Lynton, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys, CEO of the entertainment unit.

The drastic, end-of-a-lifestyle changes to one of Hollywood’s most free-spending studios come after a number of box office bombs and pressure from shareholder activist Dan Loeb to spin off some entertainment assets, cut costs and for greater financial transparency.

While Loeb, founder of hedge fund Third Point, lost his bid to have assets spun off, he appears to be winning a war on the other counts.

As Hirai ticked off the cuts at a meeting in Sony’s Culver City,Madonna Named the World's Hig, Calif., lot,Live Grenade Found At Oregon Thrift Shop, a host of Sony division heads, including Lynton, cheap baseball jersey, looked on uncomfortably.

Movie boss Amy Pascal told the roughly 50 Wall Street analysts in attendance that the cost cuts could mean shrinking the summer movie releases of Sony’s studios ― Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Screen Gems ― to four from nine.

Lynton said the budget-cutting would result in a significant “shift from motion pictures to higher-margin television production and networks.” Sony Television produced the popular “Breaking Bad” series.

Management consultants Bain have been drafted to find $100 million in cost cuts. The studio has already parted ways with its marketing chief, its head of corporate communications and the head of movie publicity in the past few months.

Sony did manage to bring aboard a new high-priced communications executive, Charles Sipkins, to try to address the Loeb problem.

Third Point declined to comment on the presentation and did not appear at the event.

Separately, Loeb revealed yesterday that his fund has taken a more than $1 billion stake in SoftBank, which earlier this year made an unsuccessful bid for Universal Music Group.

On Wall Street, investors Friday didn’t appear smitten with the cuts. Sony’s ADRs traded down 1.2 percent in late morning trading, at $18.43.

If Sony is serious about its need to reduce its overhead, outsiders question the need for two bosses to oversee the motion picture group.

Lynton, who took most of the questions during the Q A session, and who was in contention for a senior role at Time Warner, may not relish the continued turmoil at the troubled consumer-electronics giant.

In addition to the more traditional cuts usually associated with an under-the-gun CEO, Hirai appears ready to over-deliver on the new austerity regime.

Among the CEO’s ideas is a money-saving move to replace grass on the studio lot with synthetic turf to save on maintenance, one source said.</html>

Your Turn- Farm bill about cuts and reform

<html>On the more than 80,000 farms across our state, farmers worked around the clock to bring in a successful harvest. The wet spring that delayed planting, the dry summer that stressed crops, and the wet October that has hampered the harvest have not dealt them a perfect hand, but our farmers don?t make excuses. They just roll up their sleeves and get the job done. Congress could learn a lesson or two from our farmers as we work to finally pass a strong, cheap baseball jersey, long-term farm bill. As a member of the Farm Bill Conference Committee responsible for crafting the final version of the legislation, I am committed to finding common ground and reaching an agreement that best serves Minnesota. The bipartisan Senate-passed bill includes provisions that every American can rally behind. We can reduce our debt by $24 billion, secure the safety net for farmers by strengthening crop insurance programs, maintain our nutrition programs, and streamline and improve critical conservation programs that protect our environment. While the call to pass a farm bill is nothing new, this time, inaction is unacceptable. The one-year bill extension passed by Congress in 2012 expired Sept. 30, creating harmful uncertainty for farmers and ranchers nationwide. Worse yet,[5], if a new bill is not passed by the end of this year, we would go back to the agriculture policy of 1949. Milk prices could double, farmers would lose safety-net programs and funding for critical conservation programs would be eliminated. Bill s benefitsIn the Senate, we passed a comprehensive, long-term bill that represents both compromise and reform. As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I was proud to help craft a bill that received strong bipartisan support with 66 senators voting for it. (Page 2 of 2)
The Senate bill strengthens the crop-insurance program, which is the most important risk-management tool for many farmers in Minnesota, and we funded the livestock disaster programs. We put in place a new safety net for dairy producers to address the wild volatility in the dairy market and continued the successful sugar program. We also preserve the essential nutrition programs that millions of families and children rely on every day. While the Senate bill makes $4 billion in reductions, cheap basketball jersey, our focus is on reforms that involve closing loopholes that do not affect Minnesota families and still ensure that hardworking families and seniors can buy groceries. Most importantly, the Senate farm bill cuts $24 billion from the nation?s debt and represents a genuine opportunity for common ground as we continue to work toward a long-term budget deal. Every American has a direct stake in the success of our farms and food businesses. Through the food we eat, where to buy nfl jerseys,Palin to sign Christmas book at Mall of America on Friday, the water we drink, the fuel we use and the air we breathe. It is time for Congress to put aside the gridlock, work together and pass a bipartisan farm bill that moves our country forward.

Vince Vaughn focuses on family

<html>LOS ANGELES In the new movie ?Delivery Man,? Vince Vaughn plays a sperm donor who learns he?s fathered more than 500 kids. In the past, that kind of scenario might have been the setup for a film with adult humor, given the actor?s portfolio. But ?Delivery Man? is decidedly family-friendly fare, and reflects the stage of life where the 43-year-old married father of two finds himself these days. When asked how fatherhood has changed him, he pointed to his relationship with Weber. ?It?s made me realize for myself how important it is, my relationship with my wife,? he said. ?I think the best thing you can do, on some level, as a father is to love their mom. I think there?s something very simple in that, but it also really touches on a lot of different aspects. ?It is very profound. My wife for example,The first photos from ESPN th, just me and her,[6], as I see that when I work it falls on her,? he added. ?I was fortunate, I took some time off and I?ve been able to be around. You realize how important it is to try to make sure that you?re taking time for each other. To have some fun and to connect. To laugh and do something that you both enjoy.? But now that he?s a dad, having his hand in multiple aspects of filmmaking isn?t a priority anymore. ?I don?t know, it just depends. It was so fun to come and do another movie. I could just show up and be an actor and go home,? he said. ?(I) think with the kids now it is not as motivated necessarily.?</html>

Mac Pro goes for $977,000 at charity auction

<html>One-off product designs created by Jony Ive and Marc Newson sold at a special (RED) charity auction at Sotheby’s in New York City over the weekend, with the pair’s four designs smashing all bidding estimates.

The regular model, which goes on sale in December with a starting price of $3,000,Google's India Strategy- One Teardrop At A Time- - Parallels, has a black exterior, whereas the auctioned model is red. Let’s hope Apple popped in a bit of extra memory for the buyer’s additional $974,000.

The solid gold Apple earbuds, meanwhile, were picked up for $461,000. Yes, $461,cheap baseball jersey,000. These were expected to go for no more than $25,000.

'Very few people have the level of perfection we do. It is actually very sick.'- Designer Marc Newson

Even the pair’s one-off aluminum desk fetched way more than expected, with the highest bidder paying $1.68 million for a table top (with legs) that had been expected to go for between $300,000 and $500,000.

In an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this month, Ive and Aussie industrial designer Newson discussed their work, with Apple’s design guru quick to underline the importance of focusing on every single aspect of a design.

“We are both fanatical in terms of care and attention to things people don’t see immediately,” Ive said. “It’s like finishing the back of a drawer. Nobody’s going to see it, but you do it anyway. Products are a form of communication – they demonstrate your value system, what you care about.”

Newson added, “You discover that very few people have the level of perfection we do. It is actually very sick. It is neurotic.”

The charity auction, called Jony and Marc’s (RED) Auction,Ohio State's Meyer says BCS 'a flawed system', included a bunch of other one-of-a-kind items – 44 in all – with the special event raising nearly $13 million for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Why is Canada backing oil over other industries-

<html>The party was rudely interrupted by the commodities cycle. Even as hundred-buck cigars were being chomped at the Petroleum Club,Guy punches girl on train, entire train then extracts some vigilante justice, oil prices went into free-fall, taking Dome Petroleum, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys, Alberta’s oil and gas champ, down with them. The jobless rate hit 10 per cent and inward flow of workers from the rest of Canada reversed itself. A friend of mine handed his house keys to bank and hit the road – the mortgage exceeded the value of the property. I left too, with the first big lesson in macro-economics drilled into my beer-soaked brain: Beware one-product wonders. Economies that are tilted towards a single industry are accidents waiting to happen, just like single-crop farms. While Alberta is justifiably proud of developing technologies that can turn black guck into synthetic crude oil that can flow through a pipeline, cheap baseball jersey, the other provinces have paid a steep price for Alberta’s success. But won’t an oil bust cure the high-dollar disease? As the United States turns into a shale oil and gas gusher, oil prices could easily fall. But that scenario would not magically restore Canada’s manufacturing base. Once factories are dismantled, they tend not to get rebuilt. The Heinz ketchup plant in Leamington, Ont., which is on its way to tomato heaven, cheap basketball jersey, along with 740 jobs, isn’t coming back even if the dollar falls by 50 per cent. It’s a wonder that the Canadian government has been so gung-ho on the ever-expanding oil sands given the industry’s obvious shortcomings – the environmental damage,Insights for indulging in the decadence of the season, the rising potential damage from boom-bust cycles and the creation of a petro currency. It seems like Stephen Harper Co. have decided that Canada has but one stand-out industry – oil sands – and that all policy will be skewed to work in that industry’s favour.

Packers unsure of QB for game against Lions

<html>GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- coach Mike McCarthy said the chances of playing Thursday s Thanksgiving game at Detroit are slim to none. McCarthy isn t sure whether he ll go with , who rallied the team from a 16-point deficit to a 26-26 tie with the , or , who started the past two games but was benched with 8 minutes 22 seconds left in the third quarter. Rodgers, who suffered a broken left collarbone Nov. 4 against Chicago, cheap basketball jersey, has not played since.

McCarthy said Rodgers would have to practice on Wednesday, before the team departs for Detroit, to have any chance of playing Thursday at Ford Field. If he doesn t practice on Wednesday,Braves announce a new stadium in 2017, so what abo, he won t play in the game. The Packers will practice Tuesday and McCarthy said he intends to get both Flynn and Tolzien ready to start against the Lions if Rodgers can t go.

We ve got to get two quarterbacks ready, frankly. This experience that we ve gone through the last four weeks with a different quarterback in four straight games, we re taking a hard look at our preparation, McCarthy said. It was very disappointing to me. I felt like I m an accurate quarterback, said Tolzien, who scored on a 6-yard run that gave the Packers a 7-0 lead but completed just 7 of 17 passes for 93 yards before being replaced.
I don t know what the final stat line was, but I know it wasn t 50 percent. That s bad. I m not going to try to sugarcoat it. I m going to learn from it and keep pressing to get better.

Flynn, who was Rodgers backup from 2008 through 2011 before signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent in March 2012, said he will be ready regardless of how many practice snaps he gets on Tuesday and Wednesday. I don t know what s going to happen, but I ll be ready no matter if I take 0 percent, 50 percent, 100 percent of the reps, Flynn said. I ll be ready to roll. I think I ve developed the skill of improving myself without taking reps. We ll see what happens.

Asked if he feels he deserves to be the starter after the way he played against the Vikings, Flynn said, I don t know. I would like to start. I definitely want to. But that s not my decision to make. Dodgers finalize one 2

<html>LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers confirmed the signing of free-agent right-hander Dan Haren to a one-year contract on Monday, but general manager Ned Colletti said that doesn't close the door on acquiring another starting pitcher.

Haren, 33, is viewed as a short-term, cost-efficient replacement to free agent Ricky Nolasco (who is seeking a five-year deal) in the back of a rotation that already boasts defending National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys, former American League Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Josh Beckett is expected to be ready for the start of Spring Training after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome,Florida Republican Rep. Radel, and Chad Billingsley should be ready around May after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. All are former All-Stars except Ryu, who just completed his first Major League season after seven consecutive All-Star seasons in Korea.

But with Kershaw one year from free agency, David Price on the trade block and Japan's Masahiro Tanaka possibly available soon, Colletti said the signing of Haren doesn't mean the Dodgers are necessarily done adding starting pitchers.

"If something comes our way,U.S. to sell rest of GM shares by year, we'll take a look at it," said Colletti. "We like the four we have, but we won't close the door. We hope to get Josh and Chad back, but right now we don't have them. Remember, last year we came out of Spring Training with eight and we needed a ninth three weeks in."

Haren said he wasn't thinking about competing for a starting job.

"They brought me in to pitch and be one of their five starters," Haren said. "I'm not worried about who is coming back and when they're coming back. I'm going to take the job and run with it."

"Greinke said the team has amazing talent second to none, stars at every position, a great atmosphere at the stadium," Haren said.

Colletti praised Haren's track record, consistency and makeup. He signed Haren for $10 million in 2014 with $3 million in incentives and a '15 option that vests if he pitches 180 innings. Haren said the escalating salaries for pitchers (which he called "ridiculous") were fueled by Tim Lincecum's two-year, $35 million contract, cheap basketball jersey, and Haren's market heated up as soon as Tim Hudson signed.

Haren said he might have been able to get a second year guaranteed elsewhere, "but the Dodgers are a good fit for me. At this point in my career, the priority is winning now. Money aside, this worked out for me."

However, Haren does come with some flaws. In 2013, he was 10-14 with a 4.67 ERA with the Nationals, signing as a free agent after going 12-13 and posting a 4.33 ERA with the Angels in '12.

Haren blamed his first-half problems on pitch execution, not the shoulder, saying he gave up too many home runs. His second-half improvement resulted from focusing on keeping pitches down and in the park.

"I found my groove again," he said.

He said he felt as good physically at season's end as he did all year and had no problem with back and hip issues that plagued him in 2012.

In 2011, Haren was 16-10 with a 3.17 ERA for the Angels. He came to Anaheim in the July 2010 trade with Arizona that included Patrick Corbin, now perhaps the D-backs' top starter.

Haren came to the D-backs in a December 2007 trade from Oakland that included All-Star Carlos Gonzalez. Three years earlier, cheap baseball jersey, he was traded to Oakland by St. Louis in a deal that included Mark Mulder. Haren was a second-round Draft pick by the Cardinals in '01.</html>

What Boomers Can Be Thankful for This Year

<html>Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a time of reflection and feasting. It’s when families and friends come together to dine on turkey, stuffing and all sorts of pies, and remember what we are thankful for. And boomers have a lot to be thankful for this year.

I am thankful for my grandson: For the smile on his face, for the feel of his arms holding me tightly and for the peace I see in his face when he sleeps.

The ability to spend time with family is the most important thing to be thankful for not just this time of year, but all year round.

As a generation, we have brought about major changes to society, the workplace and our economy, but the importance of family has always remained at our core. We are even changing the retirement game: Some of us are settling into retirement,Amanda Bynes ruled competent , some are gearing up for it and others have no plans to leave the workforce.

So,where to buy cheap nfl jerseys, what should baby boomers be thankful for in 2013?

Cal Brown, financial advisor and the market manager at Savant Capital Management, McLean, Va. offered his view on some positive economic news for the boomer generation that came out this year. He identified energy, technology, low inflation and low interest rates, housing rebound and corporate earnings as economic bright spots for boomers.

Here is what Brown had to say on each topic:

Energy: In the 1970s,cheap baseball jersey, it was the general consensus that we would run out of oil sometime in the next century and OPEC would have the developed nations at its mercy, forcing prices higher and higher.

And of these technological advancements have no only increased boomers’ quality of life, they also bring more jobs and more investment possibilities.

Low Inflation and Interest Rates: The silent and deadly killer of retirement living is inflation. We experienced amazingly high inflation in the late 70s early 80s,where to buy nfl jerseys, and it is a longevity risk that can deplete one’s life savings and destroy an investment portfolio.

Also, low interest rates help borrowers, and that helps with housing.

As stock prices (the numerator) have been increasing,Photo recap- 'Bubble Gang in space' episode, company earnings (the denominator) have also been rising. Thus, the P/E ratio has remained realistic and not "frothy." If prices had been rising without earnings also climbing, then the market would be over-valued.

Boris Johnson- Economic Inequality Is Good

<html>BBC video screengrab Economic inequality has become a hot topic recently, with Pope Francis becoming  speak out about the growing trend.

Last night, however, where to buy nfl jerseys, another big name expressed a very different viewpoint that economic inequality can be good, and some people just aren't clever enough to succeed.

Boris Johnson, the right wing Conservative party's Mayor of London, was talking at the Centre for Policy Studies in London, cheap basketball jersey, a neo-liberal free-market think tank. The speech was titled "What Would Maggie do Today?" but the section that caught the most attention today only dealt indirectly with Margaret Thatcher. Instead, it focused on what Johnson saw as the link between IQ and economic success.

Here's the [emphasis ours]:

Like it or not, where to buy cheap nfl jerseys, the free market economy is the only show in town. Britain is competing in an increasingly impatient and globalised economy, in which the competition is getting ever stiffer.

No one can ignore the harshness of that competition, or the inequality that it inevitably accentuates; and I am afraid that violent economic centrifuge is operating on human beings who are already very far from equal in raw ability, if not spiritual worth.

Put up your hands."] The harder you shake the pack,Brittany Murphy's mom says dad's conspiracy theories over actress' d, the easier it will be for some cornflakes to get to the top.

And for one reason or another boardroom greed or, as I am assured, the natural and god-given talent of boardroom inhabitants - the income gap between the top cornflakes and the bottom cornflakes is getting wider than ever. I stress: I don t believe that economic equality is possible; indeed, some measure of inequality is essential for the spirit of envy and keeping up with the Joneses that is,Tarpon Springs High marching band ready for Macy’s Tha, like greed, a valuable spur to economic activity.

Johnson nonetheless called for a more meritocratic society that may lead to some reduction in economic inequality. He announced his support of plans for a return of selective state schools and more state-funded scholarships for academically successful students to attend private schools.

In the Guardian, Dean Burnett  is, by design, a relative figure, and that links between IQ and personal wealth have found little to no correlation.

Even Nick Clegg, the leader of the centrist Liberal Democrats who sits in a coalition government with Johnson's Conservative party, "careless elitism" of Johnson's comments in an interview with the BBC radio.

Dallas won 31-24. But, as usual, the Cowboys couldn't do it the easy way.
