Over the past year and a half, she has helped me find answers and has helped me with the situation when it reappeared, finding answers for my problem and continues to help me today.Beverly Olson is a very caring and concerned person and I recommend her voice for the new commission.-- W. EtheridgeMaconBreak with traditionMy name is Mike Kinnebrew and I am the youth minister and worship Leader at Vineville United Methodist Church here in Macon. I am writing in support of Mallory Jones for District 4 commissioner. In the almost 8 years that I have lived in Macon, I have stayed out of the politics of our town. My business is taking care of the young people that God has placed under my leadership for this short, yet vital time in their lives. That is my focus, and that is my calling. That being said, I am breaking with that tradition this once. The reason? I believe Mallory holding the office of Macon-Bibb commissioner will be good for our city, which is good for our small community, which is good for our families, which is good for the teenagers that I have devoted my life to.I have found Mallory to be intelligent, generous and capable in the years I have known him. More than that, I know him to be a truly good man. That is why Mallory has my support in this upcoming election. That is why I was running up and down St. Andrews Drive putting up door hangers for him this morning. And that is why Lindsay and I would like to ask you to consider voting for Mallory Jones on September 17.-- Rev. Mike Kinnebrew and Dr. Lindsay KinnebrewMaconPeacemakerIt is a historic decision our President Barack Obama has made in regards to the responsibility of his great office for the people of the United States of America. I applaud what he has called for in seeking the consideration of our elected Congress. Perhaps our judicial system and the laws of our nation will eventually need to be involved in further defining this point of our great system of democracy,[http://wiki.afanti.org/index.php?title=%E7%94%A8%E6%88%B7:Rovahomoimi#Tululake_chief_back_to_duties Tululake chief back to duties], but our president s decision is noble. Blessed are those who attempt to be peacemakers in our more and more violent world.-- John M. BagwellMaconWhere are our leaders?Today 95 percent of climate scientists have concluded that mankind is warming the planet to levels not seen in thousands of years. Our generation is already experiencing the effects with hotter temperatures and longer droughts and extreme flooding, which exacerbate disease and poverty all over the world.While,[http://www.dxs360.com/bbs/showtopic-451167.aspx Voices of Valor- Billy G. Waldrop], Macon, Warner Robins and the surrounding communities are in a state of denial or apathy, climate change is already taking its toll. Most government and community leaders are doing very little to combat this real threat of our economic and personal welfare. With several colleges, good hospitals and thousands of smart students, who is warning and advising us and getting our community into action? How bad does climate change have to get before we initiate a plan to free us from fossil fuels and move to a more self sustainable community? Our colleges should be providing students with training; doctors should be preparing us for old and new diseases in this area and the government should be addressing public transit and economic issues, while community advocates have to keep pushing the local news outlets to inform and educated the public on the many changes that will affect us.You will always have climate deniers who would rather sink with the ship than admit they are wrong. It is up to the rest of us to try and save our community.-- Fred Gunter Jr.MaconWho knew?Pickleball: A big mystery. Google it. Pickleball is a new event in the Golden Olympics in Warner Robins on Sept. 18 through Sept. 21. It is a cross between tennis and pingpong and I hear it is addictive. Warner Robins is always, it seems, at the forefront of recreation in the Middle Georgia area and yet Pickleball is a big unknown. Calling all Pickle-ballers. Come out and see it played in the Golden Olympics.-- Carole PerryBonaireMoore, who?In the Sept. 4 front page headline, Ex-Forsyth council members plead guilty, some person named Moore is quoted. (The article doesn t say what connection Moore has to the case. He could be the courthouse groundskeeper. who knows?) Moore is quoted as saying, The oath of office is a sacred thing, and those who choose to seek public office should know that they must not betray the public s trust. Bribes have no place in government contracting, and my office will use our resources to ensure that a few instances of corruption are not allowed to erode the public s ability to trust the representatives they elect. From his quote, it s obvious that this Moore character is planning to run for higher elected office. If he weren t, he wouldn t be looking for brownie points and there wouldn t be any need to blow smoke at the public about trusting elected representatives. The oath of office being sacred, and a few instances of corruption. Does Moore intend to go after every state senator and representative?Moore doesn t like bribes in government contracting in a small place like Forsyth, but does he think state officials have a right to them? Lobbyists pay bribes constantly to these elected representatives that Moore seems to think are trusted.Did Moore laugh out loud when he made that statement? If he kept a straight face, he would make a good comedian.-- Dennis ArthurMaconThe Moore referenced in the story is U.S. Attorney Michael Moore. U.S. attorneys are not elected, but appointed.-- EditorsTwo problemsThere are two problems with bombing totalitarian governments that kill innocent civilians: the first is determining what to bomb and the second is determining which country to bomb first.-- Neal SnyderWarner RobinsA right to be hereI would like to comment on the Viewpoints letter of Aug. 29, by Jade Valdes, in which she states that she was insulted by a waiter at a Macon restaurant. This male employee used a racial slur toward her. This was clearly an instance where the manager should have been sought out immediately. This employee s conduct toward a paying customer was totally unacceptable and he should have been called on it. He should have been severely reprimanded or even dismissed on the spot. This is 2013 and there are new rules in place. Women, children, minorities, homosexuals, the elderly and disabled all have rights. We even have laws to protect defenseless animals. This letter disturbed me. To Valdes, I say this: You are every inch an American, regardless of your ethnic background and you have a right to be here.-- Marisol WilliamsWarner RobinsStrange moveAfter reading the article about the Pamela Moss verdict, I m not sure what our Sheriff David Davis is thinking. The two officers who actually found Doug Coker in this case also found a young man missing from Macon, murdered in Monroe County. These two investigators, Jamey Jones and Tania Grier, made Officers of the Year, were recognized at multiple ceremonies, yet our sheriff is taking them out of investigations and downgrading at least one of the detectives, Jamey Jones,[http://kupangs.com/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=723001&extra= Charity in Chocolate 2013 photos], back to patrol duty. Does that make any sense?I would think he would want the two officers who made him look pretty darn good in 2012 to continue their work in the area that got them their recognition. I don t think Sheriff Davis constituents would appreciate them being transferred.-- Dennis RolandMaconNeed more like PittsI enjoyed reading Leonard Pitts Jr. s column on Sept. 4. He obviously possesses a rational and insightful mind as his columns are always well-considered and thought provoking. In this particular column, he took issue with the common knee-jerk reactions of many as the nation continues to find its way through the racial landscape. I wish there were more learned individuals like Pitts in the written and television media rather than those whose only agenda is finding the nearest camera and serving their own egos.-- Ricky CookKathleenWho s got the most glue?I read with great interest the comment Kemper for Jones in the Sept. 3 edition of Viewpoints about Mallory Jones for commissioner in the new consolidated government. As a child, I remember being shown flash cards as an aide for learning and remembering. Which brings me to my point. We ve been shown the same flash cards for years on end. I m referencing the lifers in our city, state and federal government. The same names, faces and roadside vote gimme signs every year.At this point, no, I m not voting for Jones, but what I will do is my own research on him and any other candidate. On Sept. 17, I will make a choice. This I do know, Macon is broken and we all know the same flash cards that watched it break. So why vote for the familiar face or name.It should be obvious after all these years they are short in the glue department. Look around, Macon is still broken. So on Sept. 17, don t vote for a flashcard. Use your brain and do your own research. Vote for the candidate with the most glue.-- T. BucknerMaconLife expectancy for chickensTwo related articles in the Sept. 5 Telegraph caught my attention. The Associated Press story, 1,[http://ask.ichety.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1084012&extra= Cowboys Corner- Hatcher looking forward to DL reinforcements as Cowboys plan to],200 chickens to retire on the East Coast, tells that an anonymous $50,000 donation will be used to relocate these non-productive caged birds from California to New York to live out the remainder of their natural lives cage-free. According to ask.com, the life expectancy of a chicken is 3-6 years.I question how many will survive the flight. How many survive the first week in this new environment. Will they live through their first thunderstorm, and how many will reach the ripe old age of six. These aren t your hearty barnyard chickens, and without constant veterinary care will be susceptible to a plethora of diseases that ravage large flocks. In 2012 there were 8,428,847 young meat chickens slaughtered for U.S. consumption, according to the USDA. Presently, there are approximately 57 egg producing companies with flocks of 75,000 hens or more. Of the top 10 egg producing states, California is fifth, and Georgia 10th (American Egg Board). This $50,000 gesture seems pointless at best. The wonderful article. How saving animals at all costs can be dangerous, by PETA s president Ingrid E. Newkirk illustrates how an ignorant though well-meaning approach often achieves an undesirable result. This article is spot-on,[http://www.finadri.com.au/node/769975 Amazon.com- Naples Daily News], if you haven t read it, go online and read it now.-- Tim Talcott Sr.Macon</html> | ||

U.S. attorneys are not elected, but appointed.-- EditorsTwo problemsThere are two problems with bombing totalitarian governments that kill innocent civilians: the first is determining what to bomb and the second is determining which country to bomb first.-- Neal SnyderWarner RobinsA right to be hereI would like to comment on the Viewpoints letter of Aug. These two investigators, Jamey Jones and Tania Grier, made Officers of the Year, were recognized at multiple ceremonies, yet our sheriff is taking them out of investigations and downgrading at least one of the detectives, Jamey Jones,Charity in Chocolate 2013 photos, back to patrol duty. The Associated Press story, 1,Cowboys Corner- Hatcher looking forward to DL reinforcements as Cowboys plan to,200 chickens to retire on the East Coast, tells that an anonymous $50,000 donation will be used to relocate these non-productive caged birds from California to New York to live out the remainder of their natural lives cage-free.
