We found cheap homes for sale all around the country. I and my wife Ana were over a drive across the country. It had been a holiday, but we looked at houses too, and bought one-in an excellent little town in the hills of western Montana. It cost $17,500, and we lived there for many months before trying to sell it for $28,000, after $2000 to fix it up.

We loved Anaconda. Where else is it possible to fly fish, go to a three-dollar movie in a old art-deco theatre (the 5th most beautiful in the country, in line with the Smithsonian), drop some nickles in a slot machine, eat at a good restaurant, stop by the bar for a dollar beer, and buy a home for under $30,000 - all within a four block area! You can find great schools and churches, a collection with rapid internet service, and wildlife (including bears) a couple of hundred yards from downtown.

Why Exist Inexpensive Properties Available?

There are because there are not many good jobs cheap homes in Anaconda, and nearby Butte. I easily found jobs in Anaconda - but not good people. This explains why people left the region within the 80's, after the mines and smelters closed.

This has driven down the home prices dramatically. Because it still has most of the simple ammenities, is cleaner now, and is slowly recovering, it's a terrific place to retire to or to go to when you have an internet or other non-location-based business.

A poor regional economy is the reason you should buy cheap houses in several elements of the nation. These are cities that have seen troubled moments, but are usually recovering, often with reasons. Anaconda, for example, now has, in addition to it's lovely mountain scenery, a ski-resort and a Jack Nicholas golf course. Houses cost four times the maximum amount of an hour or so in any way, and these costs are bound to-reach Anaconda eventually.

Cheap Homes You Do not Desire To Buy

There are villages such as the one in South Dakota where we stopped for lunch one day. A bulletin board had ads for cheap houses for sale by desperate people trying to not be the last to leave town. There clearly was a photograph of a lovely old five-bedroom farmhouse for $11,000. As we ate, we looked up the deserted road and realized that the majority of the buildings were boarded-up. There are many great towns, from Florida to Oregon, where there are cheap houses for sale. After our Montana knowledge, we started a website about them. What does a city need in order to make our list? The criteria are truly subjective, but include at the least the following:

1. Citizenry of 4,000 to 80,000.

2. Good collection.

3. Great food store.

4. Cinema.

5. A minimum of six houses available under $50,000.

6. The town has a great "feel" to it.

After much study, we found a number of cities that met our requirements, including some with houses at under $30,000. There actually are great villages out there where you can find cheap homes on the market.
