Sanderson Jones, the stand-up comedian who started a global atheist movement called Sunday Assembly, talks to the crowd at the group's first event in San Jose at Theater on San Pedro Square, Nov. 11,iTunes Accepting Donations For Typhoon Haiyan Reli iTunes Accepting Donations For Typhoon Haiyan Reli iTunes Accepting Donations For Typhoon Haiyan Reli iTunes Accepting Donations For Typhoon Haiyan Reli, 2013.

(Sal Pizarro)The Theatre on San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose was packed and hopping Monday night. People clapped and sang along to the Monkees' "I'm A Believer," and later the audience passed around a basket for donations and even stayed around for coffee and cookies. At first glance, it resembled a revival meeting, but this actually was organized by a bunch of atheists. It was the local launch of Sunday Assembly, a movement less than a year old that was started in London by Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans. Jones, who was at the San Jose event, is a 32-year-old British standup comedian with long hair and a bushy beard that give him an uncanny resemblance to traditional depictions of Jesus. That is, Jesus in a well-worn blazer and jeans, who wears huge, dark-rimmed glasses attached to a strap around his head, Kurt Rambis-style.The idea behind Sunday Assembly, Jones said, was to take the "best bits of church with no religion and lots of pop songs." It's caught on so far in about 40 communities -- mostly in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States -- and now Silicon Valley. San Jose resident Gillian Claus initially reached out to Jones back in February and worked with interested volunteers, including Lisa Hettler-Smith, to organize the event, attended by nearly 150 people. The "service" included a few talks that celebrated science, a moment of silent "mindfulness" instead of prayer and a lot of singing, as promised. Jones and other speakers injected the proceedings with humor and he pumped up the crowd like an evangelical minister would, singing and clapping along with what he calls a "Godless congregation." (Ironically, Jones says the biggest pushback has been from atheists who say Sunday Assembly isn't atheist enough for their taste.)Jones said Silicon Valley, already enamored with science, was a natural fit for a startup like Sunday Assembly, which has the motto "Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More." Naturally, they've got a website () and a crowdfunding campaign."This is the one place in the world where you can tell people you've got an idea," he said, "and it's just 'Go for it.' "TECH AWARDS' ARTISTIC SIDE: The Tech Awards have done a phenomenal job over the past 13 years of recognizing the inventive ingenuity of people all around the globe, but Thursday night's ceremony also made room for creativity of a different sort.Archbishop Mitty senior Myha'la Herrold belted out an amazing version of Whitney Houston's hit "The Greatest Love of All" to tremendous applause from the crowd of 1,500 people at the Santa Clara Convention Center. You can bet we'll be hearing a lot more from her on even bigger stages in the future.Richard Blanco, who delivered a poem at President Barack Obama's inauguration in January, recited "Genius of Stars and Love," a poem he created especially for the occasion. Blanco, a Cuban immigrant who has a degree in civil engineering, spent time with the laureates who were honored and said that both poetry and technology move toward a similar goal, "trying to make the world a better place."It's a busy week for Blanco,[1]

, who has a book, "For All of Us,cheap broncos jerseys usa, One Today," being released Tuesday.A BIRD IN THE HAND: When I heard the news Friday that a jet made an emergency landing at Mineta San Jose airport after striking a bird, Branham High School junior Caleb Levine came to mind. A member of Boy Scouts Troop 339, Levine recently built two raptor traps as part of his Eagle Scout project that were delivered to the airport. They'll help the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Wildlife Services capture and relocate birds of prey, mostly red-tailed hawks, which are attracted to the airport.Clearly, not all the birds have gotten the word.HOMECOMING WORK IN PROGRESS: Filmmaker Alex Mu oz, a graduate of Andrew Hill High School in San Jose and a recent inductee to the East Side Union High School District Hall of Fame, cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, is bringing his art to his hometown and vice versa. A couple of weeks back, I met him at the Mexican Heritage Plaza and listened to a table reading of his latest project, tentatively titled, "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?"It's a semi-biographical story about two brothers growing up in San Jose and their complicated relationship with their mother. Mu oz says he hopes to get the movie made in San Jose. "My heart is really here," he said. "It's important that everyone in the community knows that I'm giving back. This is me coming home."FINE DINING UNDERGROUND: Dishcrawl, the startup company that brings groups of people on dining tours of neighborhood restaurants, turned the tables last week for its first "Secret Supper" in San Jose by inviting three Bay Area chefs to create a six-course dinner for about 60 foodies. The result? An amazing and memorable meal served at the Blackbird Annex and prepared by Danny Chu of San Jose's Fahrenheit, Agustin Elbert of Los Gatos' Donostia and Chris Schloss of Fare in Belmont.Dishcrawl founder Tracy Lee told me the amazing thing was that the dinner sold out within 24 hours, without any of the diners knowing what they were going to eat or who would be cooking it. I managed to sneak in by volunteering to be the evening's emcee. So while I didn't have to sing for my supper, I did do a lot of talking.Contact Sal Pizarro at . Follow him at .

UFC 167- Dana White, Georges St

<html>At the end of his title fight with Johny Hendricks, Georges St-Pierre was not right in the head. Already looking like he'd repeatedly run his face into a wall, St-Pierre showed an even scarier sign of the damage he had sustained. In his corner, preparing to step back into the fray against the hardest puncher in his division, GSP asked a telling question: "What round is it?" After the fight, which St-Pierre won by virtue of a controversial decision, the distraught welterweight mentioned this incipient brain damage, cheap broncos jerseys nike,Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now, admitting to having lost time in the cage that night. Struggling to put his words together, even apologizing to announcer Joe Rogan at one point, the champion seemed close to a breaking point.

Then, in a move that might have shocked the world if his support team hadn't hinted at it all week, cheap broncos jerseys usa, St-Pierre decided to step away from the sport. "A lot is going on in my life..., St-Pierre said in the cage immediately following the fight. I have to step away. Right now I have to go away for a little bit." To say UFC promoter didn't take this news particularly well is an understatement of somewhat epic proportions. White was furious, directing his anger at the Nevada State Athletic Commission, reporters who scored the fight for St-Pierre and even the champion himself. Despite St-Pierre's clear personal and physical struggles, White had only one thing on his mind: getting his unraveling champion back in the cage. "Did he say he wants to retire? He didn't say 'I'm going to retire. I'm going to hang it up. It's been great everybody. Thanks a lot for all the years. See you later," a furious White said after the fight. "He said 'I'm going to take some time off.' "No...You don't just say 'I'll take some time off, maybe I'll be back, maybe I won't.' You owe it to the fans, you owe it to that belt, you owe it to this company and you owe it to Johny Hendricks to give him that opportunity to fight again. "There's no 'I'm going to go on a cruise. I'm going to be gone for two years. I'm going to take a hiatus. I'm going to take a leave of absence,'" White continued,Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th, building to a crescendo of impotent rage. "Whatever the hell it was that he was saying. That's not how it works. It doesn't work that way.'"

To his credit, St-Pierre faced the press, and White, after the bout. And, though he wouldn't reveal what was causing him so much pain emotionally, he did give a rundown on the toll the fight had taken on his body and mind. "I just came out of a freaking war. The guy hits like a truck. My brain got bashed left and right inside of my skull. I need to think...I get very emotional, cheap wholesale broncos jerseys," the champion told the press after the fight. "My right eye became blurry. It's still blurry right now. He punched very hard. He's the hardest puncher I've seen. He hit like a truck. I was hurt. I'm not an egomaniac. I say it when I'm hurt. I'm hurt. He hurt me tonight. Look at me."  Dana just talked to GSP for awhile. Lorenzo is talking to him now. Dana confident hes coming back. Jeremy Botter (@jeremybotter) Immediately after the press conference, White and UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta cornered St-Pierre to try to convince him to return to the cage. Fighters are just bags of meat to promoters in combat sports, but St-Pierre is White's lone remaining drawing card. That makes him a particularly important meatbag for the UFC. Something had to be done.

GSP will not retire after that fight," a defiant White told Fox Sports 1. "He owes it to the fans, he owes it to this company and he owes it Johny Hendricks to do that fight again.
Should Dana White pressure St-Pierre to return to the cage?</html>

Amanda And Keith Flick Lost 190 Pounds Together

<html>Got a success story of your own? Send it to us at and you could be featured in our I Lost Weight series! Name: Amanda and Keith Flick
Age: Amanda: 31, Keith: 33
Height: Amanda: 5'2", Keith: 5'8"
Before Weight: Amanda: 223 pounds, Keith: 265 pounds

How I Gained It: We both have struggled with our weight most of our lives. We never cooked, ate out almost every night. Alcohol and junk were big parts of our diets. Amanda's Breaking Point: I wanted to be an athlete. I was tired of sleeping in all day and feeling worthless because I was never active. I woke up one Sunday at 1 p.m. and realized that I had wasted so much of my day. Also,James Bond Settlement Sparks Blofeld Return Rumors James Bond Settlement Sparks Blofeld Return Rumors James Bond Settlement Sparks Blofeld Return Rumors James Bond Settlement Sparks Blofeld Return Rumors, complications with my autoimmune disease called had started to worsen. I knew it was up to me to improve my quality of life. How She Lost It: Running was the first step. I made a New Year's resolution to run a 5K. I started dieting and working out with a Jillian Michaels DVD and the elliptical machine. That following June, I ran my first 5K. After a knee injury, I took time off from running and gained 15 of the 50 pounds back. I called a personal trainer for an intervention! From there, my weight loss really took off, and I completed my first full marathon in Chicago on October 13, and now I am actually a personal trainer at the gym! Our newest adventure is CrossFit. I go online and attempt the workout of the day. I've found a passion and new hobby that keeps me happy and healthy! I'm living a life better than I had ever imagined. Instead of staying up late and sleeping all day, I'm at the gym by 5 a.m. I've traded beer, cigarettes and junk food for water, running shoes and clean eating! I never thought about being a personal trainer, but was encouraged by my trainer and gym friends to go for it. I absolutely love it and realized I have a passion for it. Keith's Breaking Point: After about a year of watching Amanda lose weight and get healthy, I knew I had to do something because she was looking better and better, and I had to step it up! I ordered a shirt and couldn't wear it because it was too small. I was smoking cigarettes and still eating fast food. I felt tired and unhealthy all the time. When I did something as little as bending over to tie my shoes, I couldn't breathe!

How He Lost It: I started eating better immediately and did the elliptical until that became too easy. At that point, I downloaded the Couch to 5K plan and started running. Then around the 200-pound mark, I decided to work out at the gym too. When Amanda started her personal training, I was her guinea pig. I now run three days a week and she trains me twice a week!

I feel generally good all the time now. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. All of those problems are gone now. I used to have blood sugar issues that never bother me anymore. And now when I bend over to tie my shoes -- I can breathe! Because of Amanda's autoimmune disease, she has to eat a very strict diet, and I've found enjoyment in the challenge of seeking out new and healthy meals for the both of us. A healthier lifestyle has even helped me want to better others areas of my life: I now have the drive and energy to go back to school to finish my degree. I cook all of our meals and help Amanda with all the chores around the house. After Weight: Amanda: 123 pounds, Keith: 175 pounds

UPDATE U.S. stock indexes hit round

<html>The Dow Jones industrial average crossed 16,000 early Monday, dipped briefly, then rose again. The Standard Poor's 500 index, after piercing 1,cheap wholesale broncos jerseys,800 in early trading, crisscrossed the milestone several times.

Stocks have been rising sharply this year as the U.S. economy improves, companies report bigger profits and the Federal Reserve keeps up its easy-money policies.
Investors are betting those policies are not likely to change soon. Janet Yellen, the nominee to succeed Ben Bernanke as Fed chairman, said in congressional testimony last week that she was prepared to keep interest rates low to stimulate the economy.
"The Fed is still pumping money into the system, which is helping fuel the market," said Planned Financial Services CEO Frank Fantozzi. "There's much more confidence in the market."
The S P 500 index has risen for six weeks straight and is up 26 percent so far this year. The market hasn't risen that much in a whole year since 2003.
The S P 500 has closed above major round-number milestones three times this year: 1,cheap broncos jerseys wholesale,500 on Jan. 25, 1,Seven Pillars of Singapore's Soft Power

The Dow was up 43 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,005.
Fantozzi said investors may also be nudging stocks up in reaction to news from the Chinese government Friday that it plans to open state industries to greater competition. Many big U.S. companies have come to rely on emerging markets like China to boost revenue. About half of the revenue in the S P 500 comes outside the U.S.

Tyson Foods jumped 70 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $29.47, the most in the S P 500 index. The food company said its net income surged 41 percent in the latest quarter on higher sales of beef and chicken. The company raised its dividend 50 percent.

In Government, Nothing Succeeds Like Failure

<html>The White House's decision to suspend enforcement of Obamacare's health insurance standards because of the website debacle was politically wise. (Its legality and implementation, however, remain uncertain.) But the main lesson we should draw from this incident is not that government can quickly change course in the face of failure. Rather, it teaches just the opposite: once Washington commits to a policy, it reverses direction only when waves of opposition engulf it. President Obama's sudden about-face is most unusual. (The closest analogy is George H.W. Bush's abandonment of his dramatic "no new taxes" pledge). When Bill Clinton, now more popular than ever, urged him to honor his unequivocal proclamations that we could keep our insurance policies and doctors if we liked, many congressional Democrats immediately jumped ship. But in the vast majority of cases,NCAA Division III soccer- Duh, failed policies endure. Their immortality reflects institutional practices that firmly resist policy change regardless of actual performance. These practices include the short time horizons of politicians and appointees, resistance by interest groups and congressional subcommittees to rocking the policy boat, and the careful design of programs to combine concentrated benefits but diffuse costs. Farm subsidies, for example, cheap broncos jerseys usa, are among the most inefficient, regressive federal programs. Born in the 1930s, they persist despite a vast decline in farm populations, the rise of agribusiness, and much off-farm employment by farmers who are now wealthier than non-farmers on average. Cash payments, price supports, loans, subsidized insurance, environmental protection subsidies, cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, acreage limits, and other farm subsidies cost $256 billion between 1995 and 2012. In recent decades, fully 90% of direct and price-support payments went to the top 20% of farms (including many owned by members of Congress); the vast majority of farms receive nothing. These programs disproportionately benefit the largest farms, raise food prices for the rest of us, and waste scarce water supplies. Reform efforts proved short-lived; indeed, Congress added new tax-subsidized crop insurance programs which cost $15.8 billion last year. The ethanol program also flourishes despite its multi-faceted perversity. The first Bush administration, eager to burnish its green credentials, promoted a biofuel, ethanol, as a cheap gasoline substitute. Congress then imposed a yearly quota, predicting that the U.S. would produce about 240 million gallons a year by 2011. (It turned out to be a mere seven million gallons despite lavish subsidies). But in a classic case of Murphy's law, the statutory quota made gasoline blends contain more and more ethanol even when market demand declined. Thus, huge quantities of corn were processed for gasoline rather than used for human food or livestock feed, yet corn is an inefficient ethanol feedstock compared with sugarcane, which Brazil uses to produce ethanol. And ethanol itself is not energy-efficient; its full production cycle actually lowers fuel economy. Still,Why Touch Is So Important In A Loving Marriage, the agribusiness-ethanol lobby prevailed -- and by 2012, the contrived demand for ethanol consumed almost half the corn crop, vastly more than Congress predicted. Since corn ethanol diverts as many calories from the world market every year as the worst famines and other supply shocks took away in the last fifty years, this price-raising diversion has increased world hunger in poor countries with corn-based diets. (Less tragically, the program has also raised U.S. gasoline prices, especially harming lower-income drivers). Last week, EPA finally agreed to stop -- at least temporarily -- its ratcheting up of the ethanol content. These examples of the status quo bias are only the tip of the iceberg. At the behest of powerful Postal Service unions and rural interests, Congress continues to prohibit many changes needed to address the agency's insolvency. The Voting Rights Act's coverage formula has grown so out of date that the Supreme Court held it unconstitutional earlier this year. (The Court was right to see the formula as anachronistic, cheap broncos jerseys nike, I believe, but wrong to invalidate it). Many tax rules urgently need revision. Although Congress mandated that No Child Left Behind be updated by 2007, it has not done so, forcing the Department of Education to grant the states broad waivers to keep the program afloat. Washington seems content to kick the Social Security and Medicare cans as far down the road as politically possible, making the eventual reforms all that more difficult. Where federal programs are concerned, then, nothing succeeds like failure and rigidity. But it doesn't have to be this way. Promising proposals to reverse such policy failures abound from all points on the political spectrum. And more systematic remedies beckon. For starters, Congress should require cost-effectiveness analysis of established programs, not just proposed ones. It should revive the "paygo" rule that required new programs to offset their costs against savings elsewhere. Sunset reviews of existing programs should be standard. Popular mobilization for change through the internet can help to break the grip of entrenched programs over public needs.</html>

So what exactly set Alex Rodriguez off-

<html>Getty ImagesWhy did A-Rod storm out? And for that matter, cheap broncos jerseys nike, why didn't Bud Selig want to testify?NEW YORK -- The stated reason for 's dramatic and colorful exit from his own grievance hearing Wednesday -- according to a source, he slammed his hands down on the table,Scott Nusbaum- Blackface Hall, startling everyone in the room, shouted "This is ridiculous!" then pointed a finger at MLB chief operating officer Rob Manfred and said "this is f----g bulls--t!" and stormed out (another source said earlier that Rodriguez cursed directly at Manfred) -- is that it came in reaction to Fredric Horowitz's decision not to allow his attorneys to question commissioner Bud Selig.

A-Rod's Good, Bad & Ugly
ESPNNewYork.com takes a look back at A-Rod's best -- but mostly worst -- moments as a Bronx Bummer Bomber.
And it is certainly understandable that an accused party would want to question his accuser. Under our criminal justice system, that is everyone's right.

It raises the question of why Selig did not want to testify, and it raises concerns over the true impartiality of Horowitz, who apparently ruled he did not have to. I will be interested to hear his reasoning for that decision, as well as Selig's rationale for not defending under oath the conduct of his investigation and the unprecedented 211-game suspension he meted out to Rodriguez in August. I hope those answers will be forthcoming.

But for A-Rod to react in this way makes you wonder if there is more at work here, because by storming out, it almost seems as if he is giving up the fight before Horowitz in favor of a costlier, and riskier, battle in federal court to both block the suspension and pursue a civil suit against Major League Baseball.

It raises the possibility that today's outburst was a staged event, designed to extricate Rodriguez from a proceeding he and his lawyers may not have believed was going in their favor, although it must be emphasized that no one outside of the parties involved really knows what is being said in the hearing room, what evidence has been presented or how strong a case either side really has.

Should Bud Selig be compelled to testify in the A-Rod arbitration hearing? 71% Yes 29% No (Total votes: 3,854)It stands to reason that if Selig feels strongly about his case against Rodriguez and the punishment he imposed, he should have no reason not to testify. In fact, he should want to testify in order to avoid the perception that MLB has something to hide. A spokesman for the commissioner says MLB will have a statement some time Wednesday.

But it appears that in his final months as commissioner,City seeks state aid for Bee Branch project, Selig has chosen to assume a lame-duck role -- at $18 million a year -- and leave all the heavy lifting to Manfred, his chief lieutenant.

As for A-Rod, it would not seem to help his case to come off as combative, hostile or uncooperative. The same goes for him as for Selig. If he truly has nothing to hide, nothing said inside the hearing room should upset him all that much. Certainly not to the point that he throws a public temper tantrum and storms out of a proceeding that he requested in the first place.

It may be that A-Rod has a point, and that what is going on in that hearing room at 245 Park Ave. is little more than a kangaroo court, cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, designed to give the appearance of fairness while heading toward a predetermined conclusion.

Or it may be that his side of the story is a sham and a smokescreen, engineered to obscure the central allegation of the case, that he is a serial and unrepentant performance-enhancing drug abuser.

The problem is that, for as public a proceeding as this has been, there are still way too many unanswered questions.

Let's hope today's blowup will start to provide some answers.

Volcano Raises New Island Far South of Japan

<html>A volcanic eruption has raised an island in the seas to the far south of Tokyo, the Japanese coast guard and earthquake experts said. Advisories from the coast guard and the Japan Meteorological Agency said the islet is about 200 meters (660 feet) in diameter. It is just off the coast of Nishinoshima,[5], a small, uninhabited island in the Ogasawara chain, which is also known as the Bonin Islands. The approximately 30 islands are 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) south of Tokyo,[6], and along with the rest of Japan are part of the seismically active Pacific "Ring of Fire." The coast guard issued an advisory Wednesday warning of heavy black smoke from the eruption. Television footage seen Thursday showed heavy smoke, ash and rocks exploding from the crater, as steam billowed into the sky. A volcanologist with the coast guard, cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, Hiroshi Ito, told the FNN news network that it was possible the new island might be eroded away. "But it also could remain permanently," he said. The last time the volcanos in the area are known to have erupted was in the mid-1970s. Much of the volcanic activity occurs under the sea, cheap broncos throwback jerseys, which extends thousands of meters deep along the Izu-Ogasawara-Marianas Trench. Japan's chief government spokesman welcomed the news of yet another bit, however tiny, of new territory. "This has happened before and in some cases the islands disappeared," Yoshihide Suga said when asked if the government was planning on naming the new island. "If it becomes a full-fledged island, we would be happy to have more territory." The Japanese archipelago has thousands of islands. In some cases, they help anchor claims to wide expanses of ocean overlying potentially lucrative energy and mineral resources. Japan has plans to build port facilities and transplant fast-growing coral fragments onto Okinotorishima, cheap broncos jerseys nike, two rocky outcroppings even further south of Tokyo, to boost its claim in a territorial dispute with China.</html>

Your guide to Northern California Craft Beer Country

<html>Related StoriesNov 20:Thousands of tourists make the pilgrimage each year to Northern California, visiting artisan companies that produce some of their favorite libations. The route from one stop to the next takes the faithful on some of the region's most scenic roadways as they sip, savor and snack. Are they flocking to the world-renowned Wine Country? Nope. They're in Craft Beer Country.Northern California is home to some of the nation's best craft breweries, including such local favorites as Santa Cruz Ale Works and Drake's in San Leandro, and the state's craft beer king, Sierra Nevada in Chico. But we're sticking closer to the North Coast, where IPA apostles, spirited homebrewers and other associated "hopheads" go in search of the region's best beers. Open a map app and enlist a designated driver; we're headed up the NorCal Ale Trail.Journey's start: Marin BrewingBeer: It's not just for breakfast anymore. But if you're expecting breakfast on your Ale Trail trek to be hoppy, Brendan Moylan's Marin Brewing makes a fine first stop. The Marin County-themed Mt. Tam Pale Ale and the San Quentin Breakout Stout have won a lot of awards, but a light brew with a fruit-forward pedigree might be better for breakfast. His triple India pale ale, Pliny the Younger, is one of the most hyped beers in America and causes traffic jams in Santa Rosa during its two weeks of availability every February. Want to grab a bite before getting back on the road? This isn't a bad place to order a pizza.Insider's tip: If a line is snaking out of Russian River or the wait is soul-crushing, check out the nearby Third Street Aleworks, an excellent place for brews and sausages from Bud's Custom Meats of Penngrove. Big-time little guy: Stumptown BreweryThis small brewery with a big attitude is an ideal place to end a day. This year, cheap broncos throwback jerseys, it's from Greg Rasmussen. The elder statesman: Mendocino BrewingWith more than 300 craft breweries in California alone, it's easy to forget how few were around three decades ago. Mendocino Brewing was one of the originals, and the fine folks in Ukiah recently celebrated their milestone with the 30th Anniversary Single Hop Cascade Pale Ale. Visit the taproom in Fort Bragg along Highway 1 on a Friday or Saturday night and you'll hear jazz when you're tasting a Brother Thelonious Belgian Style Abbey Ale. Proceeds from the beer, which is a tribute to pianist and composer Thelonious Monk, go to support the jazz legend's music education institute.Insider's tip: The taproom is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and during lunch hours. If you need another spot to fit your schedule, head to Anderson Valley Brewing in Boonville, home of the Boontling folk language and Boont Amber Ale.Slither up the coast: Eel River BrewingFor your third and final day on the Ale Trail, you're heading north to Humboldt County. First stop: Eel River, whose slogan is "Be natural, drink naked." You won't see nudity during your stop -- well, probably -- but what you will see is the nation's first certified organic brewery. (Get it? Organic beer is "naked" beer.)Insider's tip: Try the Certified Organic Climax California Classic lager. It won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 1998.Eureka! You found it: Lost Coast BreweryIt's not hard to find Humboldt County's biggest brewery, and it's not hard to find Lost Coast's flagship beer, Great White, in many Bay Area grocery stores. But if you visit this Eureka brewpub, which was founded by two women in 1990, opt for lesser-known brews, like the Indica IPA or Winterbraun brown ale. Insider's tip: Don't freak out too much when you're introduced to the giant spider. Don't worry; it's not poisonous.A fitting ending: Mad River BrewingFrom Marin all the way to Humboldt County, this has been a (burp!) long tasting trek along the Ale Trail. The best way to end it? At Mad River, a spot that exemplifies what this region's brewery experiences should be about: great beer in a relaxed setting with laid-back folks. Grab a classic Steelhead Extra Pale Ale or a tough-to-find specialty, such as Super Chili Pepper Madness. And after this trip, you'll probably be hungry. Good thing Mad River hosts food trucks Wednesdays through Saturdays.Insider's tip: Some of the beers you drink here are likely to be made using Sierra Nevada's first brewing system, which Mad River bought in 1989. That's the kind of interconnectedness you'll find in Craft Beer Country. Cheers!Pro brew tours

Fighting Alzheimers and enjoying some snowboarding on Sunday

<html>Joyous activity meets some brute facts of aging on Sunday, as hosts . As the U.S. population ages,Mushroom Compound Offers Hope, more families will be affected by Alzheimer's Disease, a neurological condition that currently has no cure. About are afflicted, which, cheap wholesale broncos jerseys, coincidentally, is also the number of people living in Minnesota. Nationwide, more than 15 million people, more than the population of either Ohio or Pennsylvania, are caregivers for someone with Alzheimers or another form of dementia. One such person is Bernard Isaacs, a 92-year old man who was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2010. That left Viktor Simco, his grandson, with a choice. He could, he tells me, "bring our family closer together," or "just sit back and do nothing at all." He chose to act. Simco, then a 20-year old who been a snowboarder for ten years, decided to combine his love for his grandfather and into an event to bring people together and raise awareness. "Ollies for Alzheimers," which is now in its fourth year, will be held at Wild Mountain on November 24. This "high ollie shindig" runs from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Registration, which costs $5, starts at 11:30 a.m. First prize is a snowboard from Rome, cheap broncos jerseys usa, one of Simco's sponsors. In addition to the snowboard, there will be roughly $3,000 worth of other prizes, some of which you can qualify for by purchasing raffle tickets, which sell for $5, or three for $10. Simco says, "Get there early, cheap broncos throwback jerseys, because the good stuff goes fast." There will also be free barbeque and snacks. Net proceeds go to the , which, according to Simco, "has been a huge help with making this event run smoothly." The association provides families affected by the disease with information and support. Simco adds that the association's work with families motivates him to grow the event each year. What can you do to prevent Alzheimers? The state of the science at this point seems to be "nobody knows for sure." But the Mayo Clinic says that a sedentary life may be one contributing factor. Lucky for you, Wild Mountain has this weekend as well. So if you go to Ollies for Alzheimers,Brooke Hogan reportedly calls, you just might also find a new snowboard or set of skis to boost your own health.</html>

Florida State Seminoles roll again amid Jameis Winston scrut

<html>

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The stands were sparsely populated by the end, a small contingent convinced either by obligation or morbid curiosity to wait out the inevitable.

When Florida State scored its ninth touchdown of the day, wondered if it was time to call off the dogs. After the 11th,cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, he wondered if the Seminoles might make a push to score 100.

After it was over, Jimbo Fisher was asked if he'd ever been on a team that scored 80, as Florida State did in an over Idaho on Saturday. Actually, Fisher said, he once quarterbacked a team that scored 82.

"I guess we've got to step our game up a little," FSU QB responded.

Eighty points and more work to do. That's the elite strata where Florida State resides on the field these days, and Saturday was a crown jewel in a dominant season.

Shaw, and all topped 100 yards. The defense picked off four passes and scored twice. As he has in four of the past five games, Winston made just a cameo in the second half, and yet he still threw for four touchdowns, pushing his season total to 32 -- one shy of Chris Weinke's school record.

[+] EnlargeCal Sport Media via AP ImagesDespite the storm brewing off the field, Jameis Winston remained as focused as ever on it.After Texas A&M's struggled in a loss to LSU, Winston's strong outing (14-of-25 for 225 yards and four touchdowns) should've secured him a massive lead in the Heisman race with just two games remaining, cheap broncos throwback jerseys, too, but that's where life for Florida State stops being so easy. There is a whole set of messy questions still lingering away from the game itself that complicate everything about what's to come.

The investigation into sexual-assault claims leveled against Winston will bleed into a third week, state attorney Willie Meggs told the Associated Press on Saturday, saying he likely wouldn't make a decision on whether the Florida State quarterback would be charged with a crime until after Thanksgiving. But as Meggs bides his time, the rest of Tallahassee buzzes with questions and rumors and innuendo.

Before the game, fans debated the next step in this legal drama as they guzzled beers and grilled burgers. When Winston took the field for Florida State's first offensive series, he earned a massive ovation from the crowd, though Fisher chalked it up as a routine greeting for the Heisman candidate. After it was over, only a small contingent of Florida State's roster was available to media -- a measure instituted by the school to avoid any quotes that might be misconstrued by a horde of reporters parsing every last word. And, as has been the case before each of Winston's public comments since the news of the investigation first broke, FSU staff offered a concise reminder that he would talk only about football, even if the football was a complete afterthought in the wake of yet another blowout win.

On the field, there's little left to discuss. Florida State is as good as any team in the country.

Off the field, the illicit details of an alleged 11-month-old encounter have led to an enigmatic legal battle that is the talk of college football.

"The football field is a sanctuary to me," Winston said. "And it's like that for all my teammates. I can feel it. On that field, everything is zoned out, clear the mechanism, we focus and we're out there to get a victory."

The victory came easily, as so many have this year. Florida State has won each of its games by at least two touchdowns, scored 40 points or more in all 11 contests and outscored its three nonconference opponents by a combined 196-27.

Saturday's game was more about a celebration of the senior class, which took the field in front of the home crowd for the final time. It also was another referendum on Winston's focus, and he continues to show nothing of any private worries during his public appearances.

In that context, the 80-point afternoon was an appropriate conclusion to Florida State's home slate. This was a senior class that arrived amid turbulence, as legendary coach Bobby Bowden was pushed out the door following the 2009 season and Fisher took the reins. It's a group that signed on with Fisher amid one storm, then weathered numerous others along the way.

"We've been through this years in and years out," Shaw said. "You're going to go through what championship teams go through. We're trying to stay upbeat,Andrew Coyne- Take control of the Constitution away from pre, continue on the same schedule, play like everything's normal."

Things aren't normal, but those distractions haven't altered Florida State's march toward the BCS championship game.

When it was over, Shaw was asked when he might stop to reflect on his four years at Florida State. On a day when so much debate raged among those away from the field,Guns In America- Pictures, Videos, Breaking News, Shaw offered a far more succinct approach.

"Probably after Pasadena, cheap broncos jerseys nike," he said.

Report- Underground leak sites in California go unmonitored

Associated PressPosted:   11/25/2013 08:26:23 AM PSTUpdated:   11/25/2013 08:26:24 AM PST
SANTA ANA -- A new report says hundreds of underground leak sites will go unmonitored by the state under a policy change. Since the 1980s, more than 44,000 underground fuel tank leaks have been tallied in California. A change that went into effect last year allows some of these sites to end regulatory monitoring even though trace contamination exists, the Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/1iFVdgq ) reported. The state has defended the policy,[9], saying that there's no threat to human health because gasoline contaminants will naturally degrade and won't reach groundwater supplies. State officials also said their focus is on cleaning up the worst underground petroleum storage tank leaks. "There's a lot of money that is being spent on low-threat sites. The board wants to stop spending money on the low-threat sites so that we can start spending money on the high-threat sites," Kevin Graves, cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, who heads the cleanup program at the California State Water Resources Control Board, told the newspaper. But some scientists and local water agencies have protested the new standard,Male Chastity Devices Come In Chrome And Camo Fini, saying that it allows gas station owners and oil companies to walk away from their responsibilities. The Orange County Water District, which serves about 2 million residents, cheap broncos jerseys nike, is among those concerned. The district has a pending lawsuit against more than a dozen gas companies. "When you take away the monitoring wells from these sites, cheap wholesale broncos jerseys, then we really are left with no information to tell where the plumes have moved. Now these sites are being closed with contamination in the groundwater presumably with the thought that they will attenuate by themselves without monitoring and that is certainly a concern to the water district," said Roy Herndon, chief hydrogeologist at the Orange County Water District. Since 2012, when the new standard went into effect, state and local regulators determined that more than 500 cases won't have to undergo monitoring or sampling because they were considered "low threat." Records show another 1,700 cases may also be eligible to go unmonitored, the Register reported. ------ Information from: The Orange County Register,

SJSU hate crime- Angry students say concerns ignored, NAACP

<html>Related StoriesNov 25:Nov 23:Nov 22:Nov 21:Nov 20:Nov 18:SAN JOSE -- Frustrated student leaders, some wearing tape over their mouths, rushed the stage Monday after San Jose State administrators and local NAACP leaders concluded a news conference on the arrest last week of four students charged with hate crimes against a black roommate. The tape symbolized the complaint they brought to the stage: The school has not been listening to their concerns, and no one had invited them to take part in the news event."Last semester when we were protesting and requesting to meet with you, we were trying our hardest to let you know that something was terribly wrong with the experience that African-American students are having at San Jose State," said Gary Daniels, an SJSU student and chairman of the Black Unity Group, to school President Mo Qayoumi. "But you did not want to hear us."

The large gathering on Monday came hours after Qayoumi took personal responsibility for the campus not intervening sooner to stop the alleged abuse of a black student by his white roommates -- who had displayed a Confederate flag in the room and also collared him with a bicycle lock -- or to suspend the students before they were criminally charged last week. "By failing to recognize the meaning of a Confederate flag, cheap wholesale broncos jerseys, intervene earlier to stop the abuse, or impose sanctions as soon as the gravity of the behavior became clear, we failed him. I failed him," Qayoumi said in a statement released Monday. An independent expert will examine "how such abuse could have gone unchecked or undetected for weeks," and propose reforms, Qayoumi said. Qayoumi appeared with civil rights leaders before the campus "black power" salute statue, where the NAACP called for felony charges -- rather than misdemeanors -- against the white freshmen accused of tormenting their black roommate."The community will not stand idly by and allow for any student of color to be terrorized simply due to the color of his skin," said the Rev. Jethroe Moore II, president of the San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office filed misdemeanor hate crime and battery charges last week against Joseph Bomgardner, 19; Logan Beaschler and Colin Warren, both 18; and a fourth student who, as a minor, is not being named. All four have been suspended indefinitely. At least two resident assistants asked the students to remove the Confederate flag from public view but did not pursue the matter, police reported.Qayoumi has promised a full investigation and said the findings would be made public.Monday was the president's first major public appearance since the news came to light last week, although he met with a group of students Sunday night.Qayoumi earlier issued written statements on his outrage about the alleged bullying, but the sentiments weren't enough for Daniels and other students who said SJSU has a history of sweeping problems under the rug and ignoring student complaints.Daniels said black student groups had tried for a year to meet with Qayoumi, and that they had sent him ideas for making black students -- who make up about 3 percent of the student body -- feel safer and more welcome on campus.Joining students on stage was Denise Johnson, whose son Gregory Johnson Jr. was found dead at a fraternity house in November 2008. The black student's death was ruled a suicide by hanging, but Johnson still seeks a new investigation; she believes her son was killed in a hate crime."He died like a dog," she said, holding photos of her son's body while students comforted her.Hate crimes may be charged as misdemeanors or felonies. Authorities said they consider such factors as the sophistication of the crime, the previous criminal records of the accused, the severity of their actions and the sentence a judge is likely to impose. In a statement issued Monday about the recent case, District Attorney Jeff Rosen said that if convicted of the misdemeanor hate crimes, the men could face double punishment for the crimes and court-ordered payments to agencies that serve victims of hate violence -- and to their former roommate, for counseling or other expenses. "While we understand the outrage of those calling for even stiffer charges in this case, the charges are not a reflection of the degree of their racism," Rosen said. "The charges are a reflection of their criminal conduct." Staff writer Tracey Kaplan contributed to this story. Greek economy seen shrinking further next year

<html>In a survey published Wednesday, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said the Greek economy would contract 0.4 percent in 2014, in contrast to the Greek government's forecast for 0.6 percent growth.

The leading international economic think-tank said "positive growth is projected only in the course of 2014,Los Angeles Angels trade Peter Bourjos to St. Louis Cardinals for David Freese, reflecting a slower decline of domestic demand and a pickup in exports."
Greece's economy is contracting for a sixth consecutive year, and the government has been relying on rescue loans from the International Monetary Fund and other European countries since May 2010.
The government has insisted the country will return to growth in 2014, and will post a modest primary surplus — the budget balance without taking into account outstanding interest payments.
"The 2014 budget is the budget of the Greek economy's recovery after six years of recession," Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras said during a speech to Parliament's finance committee Wednesday.
The billions of euros of rescue loans have been contingent on Greece implementing broad structural and fiscal reforms. Successive governments have imposed repeated rounds of austerity measures, including slashing pensions and salaries, and increasing taxes.
While improving certain aspects of the economy, such as the reduction in Greece's annual budget deficit, the reforms have contributed to a sharp drop in living standards and spiraling unemployment, particularly among the young,Teresa Giudice, Husband Face Two More Federal Fraud Charges, where the jobless rate is over 60 percent.
"The depression has been much deeper than expected, which has undermined debt sustainability, induced a dramatic rise in unemployment, cheap broncos jerseys nike, which affected more than 27 percent of the labor force at mid-2013 and raised social tensions, especially in the first years of the program," the OECD said in its economic survey for Greece.
It said growth was hampered by weak domestic and global demand and difficulty accessing credit.
"Together with the additional adjustment needed on the fiscal side and price competitiveness, cheap broncos throwback jerseys, the need for further assistance to achieve fiscal sustainability cannot be excluded, cheap broncos jerseys usa," the report said.
There was praise, however, for how far Greece has come, with the organization saying the country achieved "a record fiscal consolidation by OECD standards" that managed to reduce the country's massive deficit.</html>
