Celebs are people just like us, who have their fair share of hardships in life, but this one is a shocker, as we all know! Patti Labelle has stated that a really recognized, iconic soul singer attempted to rape her during the 60's. We thank Patti for sharing her stories with us, as we have all find out about her pain and her struggles. Remember she given to us that her three sisters died of cancer when they were within their 40s. She shared with us her guilty feelings of wondering if she had neglected her sisters in her obsessive journey for music recognition. But her story of being sexually assaulted was one that I hadn't heard her speak of before until I read her book, "Don't Block The Blessings." According to Patti, it was Jackie Wilson who attempted to rape her backstage at a theater. Here's her account of the things happened on that day via michronicleonline.com:

Jackie Wilson

Patti Labelle has already established her share of downs, certainly one of which involves being the victim of the attempted rape by another from the greatest singers and performers in recent history, the iconic Jackie Wilson. It happened, LaBelle alleges, in the early 1960s. During the time she was using the group Patti LaBelle and also the Bluebelles. The scene was backstage at a theater and LaBelle happened to get alone. Someone, she says, came out behind her.

It was Jackie Wilson, she recalled. He was kissing my neck and i also could smell the liquor on his breath. As I struggled to free myself, Jackie's accomplice started dragging me in backwards. I was no match for him. Next thing she knew, she was locked in a room, although i was kicking with all my might.

Jackie started touching. I started screaming, but no one could hear me. I didn't have a knife, but I had my voice. I started screaming even louder, at the top of my lungs, and that i can scream every bit as loud because i can sing.

She continued, It worked. Suddenly they backed off. They permit me to go. Remembers Jackie Wilson as a perfect gentleman who always went out of his way to help Gladys Knight & the Pips in the group's early days, though i ran as fast as I could in the direction of the lights. Gladys Knight didn't deny the accuracy of Patti LaBelle's story. One man, two remembrances."

Geesh, this really is deep! It's extremely hard to hear stories like this about legends whom we have great respect for from an artistic standpoint, but it's also a reminder that again, legends are people just like us- some of them flawed and some of them not so flawed. Have you been astonished at this I Really Like Old Fashioned Music family?
