I moved to Hong Kong virtually seven months ago from a much different environment in Cincinnati, Ohio. The transition has been relatively effortless and I was surprised out how little of a culture shock I experienced. With that said, HK is amazingly totally different from almost all western cities and lot are many wonderful things to do. Whether you're just thinking about visiting this superb city, considering relocating or moving right here for your task, I thought it'd be useful to put a short list of things to do in hong kong to do and see in this magnificent city.
The Peak. One of the 1st things I did when I moved to Hong Kong was to get a view of the town from high above. The absolute most effective area to see all the area is by visiting The Peak. This is an area that sits high above the city and allows you see the majority of the northern part of Hong Kong Island, also as Victoria Harbor and Kowloon on one other side of the harbor. The virtually all exhilarating option to reach The Peak is by taking the historical incline, which I will discuss.
The Hong Kong Peak Tram. There are lots of ways to reach the Peak in HK. You can take a taxi, a bus or even walk (yet only if you are VERY fit). The virtually all exhilarating method to reach the Peak however is by taking the well known and historic Peak Tram. The tram is like a cable car, but it runs on a very steep angle, giving you the false impression that the surrounding buildings and landscape are definitely sprouting from the ground at a 45 degree angle! The ride just lasts 8 to ten minutes, but it is undoubtedly something which you will want to experience at least once.
The Star Ferry. Reminiscent of early 1900's Hong Kong, the Star Ferry is a short ride across Victoria Harbor and takes you straight in Kowloon where you will find the arts and cultural center, Nathan Road and wonderful shopping and dining spots. The most beneficial part about riding the Star Ferry is that it gives you an unobstructed view of HK Island. It's only then which you are able to totally appreciate the vastness and beauty of one of the greatest cities on the earth.
Traveling throughout Hong Kong is much simpler than you might think. Virtually all people right here speak English and are generally helpful to visitors. The transportation system is awesome. Taxis, busses, subways and ferries are readily available at the vast majority of hrs of the night and day and are extremely economical. If you're trying to find a trip which is a trifle off the beaten path, yet still presents a distinctive cultural experience and plenty to do, consider visiting Hong Kong. You won't be disappointed!
