One of Roger Bearss' greatest passions is football. He loves his profession as an educational administrator but he pours his heart and soul into the work he does as a football coach after school. Roger Bearss cannot fault his young students for their determination and dedication to the sport but, as an educator, he also knows that academia is important too.
Roger Bearss spent many years studying physical education. He did so as a student at Central Michigan University. After studying physical education and health education, Roger Bearss was able to safely determine how to help safely train his students. His teaching and coaching methods helped him create playoff qualifier teams ranging from 1995 to 2012. His teams won district championships in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2005, 2009, and 2010. In both 2009 and 2010, Roger Bearss won their regional championship and went all the way to state semi-finals.
His coaching abilities earned him a lot of recognition. Roger Bearss is a 20-year member of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. The association recognized him as regional coach of the year in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2010, and 2011. From 1995 to 2003, Roger Bearss was Frankfort school's high school coach. The last two years he received the title Roger Bearss worked as principal and football coach for Millington community schools.
Football is an important part of Roger Bearss' life. In addition to football, Roger Bearss prides himself on his leadership abilities. In 2012, the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association awarded Roger Bearss of Millington High School with the Steve Spicer Leadership Award. This is the most recent award won by Roger Bearss. With such a long and successful career as an administrator and football coach, Roger Bearss is sure to continue receiving recognition for his hard work and team dedication.
Roger Bearss plays dual roles in his career. First and foremost he identifies with his professional position as principal of Millington High School in Michigan. Secondly, he identifies himself as the Millington High School football coach. He is passionate about both areas and joined three different associations to demonstrate his commitment and determination to succeed in each role.
The longest association membership Roger Bearss maintains is the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. He is a 20-year member of this association. In addition to maintaining a regular membership, Roger Bearss became a committee chair for the association. He's been an honorary membership committee chairperson for 12 years.
This is the only association that Roger Bearss is part of as a football coach. The remaining two memberships are related to his work as an educational administrator. For six years each, Roger Bearss has been a member of the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Roger Bearss enjoys being a principal of his school and works hard to increase the school's level of academic success. This is proving an even greater challenge than it is for other schools because Roger Bearss' high school is growing from grades 9 through 12 to 7 through 12.
While he is no longer member of the program, Roger Bearss was a one-time director for Jeff Trickey Quarterback camps. He was the program director from 2002 to 2011. While he no longer is program director for the camps, he still supports the purpose of the camp and encourages his football team to attend the camps.
Roger Bearss is a dedicated principal and coach. When he can, he goes out of his way to help students. Roger Bearss encourages all his students to put in their best efforts and not give up on their education or sell themselves or abilities short.
