When you search online for CNA Training or CNA courses or seminars you will literally find thousands of programs. But they are not all made equal and many may not be good for you because of state-specific regulation. It is therefore important to be well informed before you sign up to a CNA class. So read on to learn how you can find the best program for you. State board approval is important The first question you should ask when someone offers you to participate in a CNA class is if this seminar is approved by the national state board. See, in each state a board defines the policies and regulations that you need to follow in order to to become licensed as a CNA. This includes guidelines for the training. Providers of CNA certification seminars must get their curriculum approved because otherwise you won’t get the license no matter how good the training is. So, before you sign up ask in which states the seminar has approval. You can learn where these schools are, by going to your state’s CNA registry or by calling the registry. Some providers offer online classes that don’t cover the entire curriculum, but are a great way to do a big part of the learning on your own time.

All of the state approved schools must have at least 75 hours of training, with at least 16 of these total hours spent learning “hands on” skills. Some CNA training courses may be longer even though this is not required. If you find one of these and the price looks good to you I recommend to sign-up because the more you learn now, the better you will be prepared for the job.

The cost of a CNA seminar

The cost of a CNA course usually is in the range from $800 to $1,500. This sometimes includes Books or uniforms. So it pays to compare between CNA seminars and ask what is included with the tuition. You may also want to check with the schools in your area to find out if they have any scholarships or tuition assistance. This can reduce the cost considerably.

The teacher must be a nurse

CNA seminars must be taught by a registered nurse (RN) who has:

- At least 2 years of nursing experience with a minimum of one year practice in a nursing home, or other long term care facility - Completed a formal course relating to adult education or has experience as a teacher of adults or with the supervision of nursing assistants.

It is however possible that a vocational nurse (LVN), practical nurse (LPN) or social worker provides parts of the CNA seminar, but they only can do this under the close supervision of the nurse. In any case, your teacher must have at least one year of practice experience. So this is another detail to look out for before signing up to CNA classes.

Content of a CNA course

All CNA training programs must cover at least the following subjects. Again, some may include a broader range of topics, which is something to look out for when shopping for the best alternative. Ask the provider to send you the curriculum. This gives you an opportunity to compare the seminar content with the list of required topics.
