Nominated for 7 Emmys in its first five months, Law & Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) remains the success of NBC's blockbuster Law & Order franchise. The brainchild of Law & Order inventor Dick Wolf (former writer for hit SHOWS such as Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice), Law & Order SVU is shot on location in New York. It uses the original half-police drama/half-courtroom dilemma format that made its forerunner a wonderful success, yet SVU focuses exclusively on sexually based crimes

Law & Order SVU tells the story of a group of devoted investigators who work with the elite group referred to as the Special Victims Unit. Capt. Bob Cragen (Dann Florek) heads up the machine including four regular investigators - Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T). While examining killings, rapes, and other vicious crimes, the detectives often check with police psychiatrist Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) who provides special insight into the minds of alleged predators. Once the necessary evidence is gathered by the detectives, they turn their case up to Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak (Diane Neal) who agents deals and prosecutes the circumstances that put these nefarious criminals behind bars

Regulations & Order SVU DVD features a number of dramatic episodes like the series premiere "Payback" where a taxi lloyd irvin driver is identified stabbed to death along with his genitals cut off. When detectives Stabler and Benson examine, they figure out that the man is a former soldier in the struggle and that he was a rapist. Benson, a child of rape, is sympathetic to the activities of rape victims, and Stabler should keep her from crossing the line to guard the likely suspects Other distinctive episodes from Season 1 contain "Sophomore Jinx" in which a college student's murder investigation is obstructed by the college when the SVU suspects a s) of the college basketball team, and "The Third Guy" in which an elderly woman is tied up and raped in her apartment, but the investigation requires a unique angle when the original suspects are satisfied and a new perpetrator enters the picture
