Nominated for 7 Emmys in its first five periods, Law & Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) continues the achievement of NBC's hit Law & Order franchise. The creation of Law & Order author Dick Wolf (former writer for hit TV shows such as Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice), Law & Order SVU is shot on location in New York. It uses the standard half-police drama/half-courtroom drama structure that made its precursor a great success, however SVU focuses exclusively on sexually based crimes

Law & Order SVU tells the story of the group of committed investigators who benefit the elite group known as the Special Victims Unit. Capt. Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) heads up the system which include four regular investigators - Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T). While investigating murders, rapes, and other horrible crimes, the investigators usually consult with police psychologist Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) who gives special insight into the minds of alleged predators. Once the necessary evidence is gathered by the detectives, they change their case up to Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak (Diane Neal) who brokers deals and prosecutes the circumstances that set these nefarious criminals behind bars

The Law & Order SVU DVD includes a number of dramatic episodes such as the series premiere "Payback" in which a cab lloyd irvin driver is identified stabbed to death with his genitals take off. They find out that the person is a former soldier in the conflict and that he was a rapist, when detectives Stabler and Benson investigate. Benson, a daughter or son of rape, is sympathetic to the steps of rape victims, and Stabler should keep her from crossing the line to protect the likely suspects Other notable symptoms from Season 1 contain "Sophomore Jinx" in which a college student's murder investigation is hindered by the college when the SVU suspects a s) of the college baseball team, and "The Third Guy" in which an elderly person is tied up and raped in her house, but the investigation takes a unique angle when the initial suspects are removed and a new criminal enters the picture
