Amazingly, Heinemann has found that orbs often appear at happy gatherings, near spiritual healers (particularly in the region of the head), and at positive events. This has caused Heinemann to link spiritual orbs with more positive energies and settings. Yet, according to Heinemann there are orbs currently understood as dark orbs that typically appear at hauntings and other locations with paranormal activity. The latter orbs apparently absorb energy rather than emit coherent light like the orbs that show up at the more positive gatherings. The latter argument may support the notion that spirits draw on the environment to act and/or manifest.
Lens glare , flash glare, and external light glare are also capable of producing this effect in pictures. Most people unfamiliar with photography fail to realize that flash can produce glare even off of soft objects such as fabric, fur, rough unpolished wood, etc., all of this can create paranormal light orbs a orb like effect. This can also create mist like effects mistaken for spirits. But thats a whole other topic. Lens glare and external glare can also create a telescoping effect, where it appears several orbs are in a line. This can most certainly be identified as man made every time.
Orbs are the most controversial topic in the paranormal field. Bring up orbs and you are sure to start a heated debate. Are they proof of the paranormal or are they refracted dust? As long as there are orb pictures there will be speculation. However, there have been many skeptical paranormal researchers who have successfully reproduced orbs under controlled conditions that look exactly like those pictures that claim to be paranormal. In the Webster dictionary “paranormal” is defined as “not scientifically explained.” Therefore, if the average paranormal investigator can deliberately replicate an orb in a picture then by its very definition an orb cannot be considered paranormal in nature.
The other point an “orb-a-phile” will argue is that they felt a “presence” of a spirit right before they took the picture and that is when they caught the orb. Personal experience should never be discounted, and it is a highly intriguing claim. Was there a ghost standing in the very spot when the picture was taken? Why did the ghost not show up picture? We will never know until humans become more evolved or someone creates a technology that will be able to undoubtedly track ghostly activity. In the interim there are many speculations as to why the presence is felt and only an orb remains.
A) Supposing there was a photo showing an orb partly behind an object in the picture. This could not be explained by the OZT where orbs are caused by objects just in front of the camera lens. Such photos do exist. However, in all the examples so far examined, the faint translucent orb was overwhelmed by a highly saturated colour in the object supposedly obscuring it. In other words, the missing portion of the orb could not be seen because it was overwhelmed by the more strongly coloured object behind it (particularly if it is highly coloured or very dark or light).
Orbs " are a general description to describe light and camera anomalies not all of which are "paranormal." When the issue of orbs are raised in the paranormal community, it comes down to what you personally believe. There are many who automatically discount orbs as anything other than paranormal. There are also just as many who will claim every orb is paranormal. I have taken thousands of pictures over the years during paranormal investigations as well as viewing photos from other investigators. I have also captured my share of dust, bugs and moisture. Below are my thoughts on how to tell the difference.
