Helium balloons are a great way to memorably and powerfully punctuate an event. For those unfamiliar with the process, however, acquiring a helium balloon tank and the other equipment necessary might seem like a daunting task. In particular, determining the characteristics of the tank you will need, as well as where to find it, is perhaps the most important step in the process.

The first decision to make is whether or not you need a tank permanently or temporarily. In general, you must carry the invoice for your tank with you in the front glove compartment, clearly indicating its contents. There are also limits on how much helium can be legally transported in tanks.

Furthermore, care must be taken not to store helium balloon tanks under high heat or other dangerous conditions. As such, while portable tanks may seem more convenient, the excess stipulations are worth considering before determining whether or not a portable tank is right for you.

Storage is another consideration when purchasing a tank. In general, tanks should be stored in well-ventilated areas where the temperature will not exceed 120 degrees. Storage locations should be dry, out of the elements, and should provide features to secure the tank such that it won't injure anyone or suffer damage.

Helium balloons are a great and creative addition to many events. Fortunately, filled tanks are easily rented, providing everything needed to memorably use balloons in your event. If you plan on using them regularly, however, and are up to the challenges associated with owning and maintaining your own tank, then buying is also a great option, and many companies and resources are available to educate you on the process.

Helium is one of those things that few people know a lot about. They know it goes in balloons, and it's lighter than air which makes them float. They know that if you suck in helium it makes your voice high and squeaky. And they know that it can be found at any party store, florist, or gift center... or can it.

What people are starting to find out is that there is a helium shortage. Little by little as people go to buy balloons for their parties, or gifts, or to make someone feel better, they are learning that it's just not that easy to come by. And if they are able to buy a balloon that the prices are starting to float higher just like the balloon does.

Helium has an interesting history and many people are shocked to learn that helium is used for a lot more than party decorations. In fact only about 2% of helium is used for lifting objects in the air.

First detected in 1868 and named after the Greek god Helios or Sun helium played a very important role in the advancement in the industrial world. The discovery of helium as a bi-product of natural gas in Kansas in 1903 was the beginning of an evolution that would help us achieve space exploration, MRI machines, and advances in quantum physics,

Helium's characteristics make it a necessity for cooling high temperature objects such as space rockets, and MRI scanners super conducting magnets. Helium is also used in flat screen televisions and wind tunnels.
