(Sal Pizarro)The Theatre on San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose was packed and hopping Monday night. People clapped and sang along to the Monkees' "I'm A Believer," and later the audience passed around a basket for donations and even stayed around for coffee and cookies. At first glance, it resembled a revival meeting, but this actually was organized by a bunch of atheists. It was the local launch of Sunday Assembly, a movement less than a year old that was started in London by Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans. Jones, who was at the San Jose event, is a 32-year-old British standup comedian with long hair and a bushy beard that give him an uncanny resemblance to traditional depictions of Jesus. That is, Jesus in a well-worn blazer and jeans, who wears huge, dark-rimmed glasses attached to a strap around his head, Kurt Rambis-style.The idea behind Sunday Assembly, Jones said, was to take the "best bits of church with no religion and lots of pop songs." It's caught on so far in about 40 communities -- mostly in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States -- and now Silicon Valley. San Jose resident Gillian Claus initially reached out to Jones back in February and worked with interested volunteers, including Lisa Hettler-Smith, to organize the event, attended by nearly 150 people. The "service" included a few talks that celebrated science, a moment of silent "mindfulness" instead of prayer and a lot of singing, as promised. Jones and other speakers injected the proceedings with humor and he pumped up the crowd like an evangelical minister would, singing and clapping along with what he calls a "Godless congregation." (Ironically, Jones says the biggest pushback has been from atheists who say Sunday Assembly isn't atheist enough for their taste.)Jones said Silicon Valley, already enamored with science, was a natural fit for a startup like Sunday Assembly, which has the motto "Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More." Naturally, they've got a website () and a crowdfunding campaign."This is the one place in the world where you can tell people you've got an idea," he said, "and it's just 'Go for it.' "TECH AWARDS' ARTISTIC SIDE: The Tech Awards have done a phenomenal job over the past 13 years of recognizing the inventive ingenuity of people all around the globe, but Thursday night's ceremony also made room for creativity of a different sort.Archbishop Mitty senior Myha'la Herrold belted out an amazing version of Whitney Houston's hit "The Greatest Love of All" to tremendous applause from the crowd of 1,500 people at the Santa Clara Convention Center. You can bet we'll be hearing a lot more from her on even bigger stages in the future.Richard Blanco, who delivered a poem at President Barack Obama's inauguration in January, recited "Genius of Stars and Love," a poem he created especially for the occasion. Blanco, a Cuban immigrant who has a degree in civil engineering, spent time with the laureates who were honored and said that both poetry and technology move toward a similar goal, "trying to make the world a better place."It's a busy week for Blanco,[1]

, who has a book, "For All of Us,cheap broncos jerseys usa, One Today," being released Tuesday.A BIRD IN THE HAND: When I heard the news Friday that a jet made an emergency landing at Mineta San Jose airport after striking a bird, Branham High School junior Caleb Levine came to mind. A member of Boy Scouts Troop 339, Levine recently built two raptor traps as part of his Eagle Scout project that were delivered to the airport. They'll help the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Wildlife Services capture and relocate birds of prey, mostly red-tailed hawks, which are attracted to the airport.Clearly, not all the birds have gotten the word.HOMECOMING WORK IN PROGRESS: Filmmaker Alex Mu oz, a graduate of Andrew Hill High School in San Jose and a recent inductee to the East Side Union High School District Hall of Fame, cheap broncos jerseys wholesale, is bringing his art to his hometown and vice versa. A couple of weeks back, I met him at the Mexican Heritage Plaza and listened to a table reading of his latest project, tentatively titled, "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?"It's a semi-biographical story about two brothers growing up in San Jose and their complicated relationship with their mother. Mu oz says he hopes to get the movie made in San Jose. "My heart is really here," he said. "It's important that everyone in the community knows that I'm giving back. This is me coming home."FINE DINING UNDERGROUND: Dishcrawl, the startup company that brings groups of people on dining tours of neighborhood restaurants, turned the tables last week for its first "Secret Supper" in San Jose by inviting three Bay Area chefs to create a six-course dinner for about 60 foodies. The result? An amazing and memorable meal served at the Blackbird Annex and prepared by Danny Chu of San Jose's Fahrenheit, Agustin Elbert of Los Gatos' Donostia and Chris Schloss of Fare in Belmont.Dishcrawl founder Tracy Lee told me the amazing thing was that the dinner sold out within 24 hours, without any of the diners knowing what they were going to eat or who would be cooking it. I managed to sneak in by volunteering to be the evening's emcee. So while I didn't have to sing for my supper, I did do a lot of talking.Contact Sal Pizarro at . Follow him at .

UFC 167- Dana White, Georges St

<html>At the end of his title fight with Johny Hendricks, Georges St-Pierre was not right in the head. Already looking like he'd repeatedly run his face into a wall, St-Pierre showed an even scarier sign of the damage he had sustained. In his corner, preparing to step back into the fray against the hardest puncher in his division, GSP asked a telling question: "What round is it?" After the fight, which St-Pierre won by virtue of a controversial decision, the distraught welterweight mentioned this incipient brain damage, cheap broncos jerseys nike,Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan doesn't look so good now, admitting to having lost time in the cage that night. Struggling to put his words together, even apologizing to announcer Joe Rogan at one point, the champion seemed close to a breaking point.

Then, in a move that might have shocked the world if his support team hadn't hinted at it all week, cheap broncos jerseys usa, St-Pierre decided to step away from the sport. "A lot is going on in my life..., St-Pierre said in the cage immediately following the fight. I have to step away. Right now I have to go away for a little bit." To say UFC promoter didn't take this news particularly well is an understatement of somewhat epic proportions. White was furious, directing his anger at the Nevada State Athletic Commission, reporters who scored the fight for St-Pierre and even the champion himself. Despite St-Pierre's clear personal and physical struggles, White had only one thing on his mind: getting his unraveling champion back in the cage. "Did he say he wants to retire? He didn't say 'I'm going to retire. I'm going to hang it up. It's been great everybody. Thanks a lot for all the years. See you later," a furious White said after the fight. "He said 'I'm going to take some time off.' "No...You don't just say 'I'll take some time off, maybe I'll be back, maybe I won't.' You owe it to the fans, you owe it to that belt, you owe it to this company and you owe it to Johny Hendricks to give him that opportunity to fight again. "There's no 'I'm going to go on a cruise. I'm going to be gone for two years. I'm going to take a hiatus. I'm going to take a leave of absence,'" White continued,Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th Sochi 2014- Can Steven Stamkos really recover in time for th, building to a crescendo of impotent rage. "Whatever the hell it was that he was saying. That's not how it works. It doesn't work that way.'"

To his credit, St-Pierre faced the press, and White, after the bout. And, though he wouldn't reveal what was causing him so much pain emotionally, he did give a rundown on the toll the fight had taken on his body and mind. "I just came out of a freaking war. The guy hits like a truck. My brain got bashed left and right inside of my skull. I need to think...I get very emotional, cheap wholesale broncos jerseys," the champion told the press after the fight. "My right eye became blurry. It's still blurry right now. He punched very hard. He's the hardest puncher I've seen. He hit like a truck. I was hurt. I'm not an egomaniac. I say it when I'm hurt. I'm hurt. He hurt me tonight. Look at me."  Dana just talked to GSP for awhile. Lorenzo is talking to him now. Dana confident hes coming back. Jeremy Botter (@jeremybotter) Immediately after the press conference, White and UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta cornered St-Pierre to try to convince him to return to the cage. Fighters are just bags of meat to promoters in combat sports, but St-Pierre is White's lone remaining drawing card. That makes him a particularly important meatbag for the UFC. Something had to be done.

GSP will not retire after that fight," a defiant White told Fox Sports 1. "He owes it to the fans, he owes it to this company and he owes it Johny Hendricks to do that fight again.
