The Inca Trail is undoubtedly Peru's hottest trekking route. Recommended for the physical fit only, it reaches 4,200 m.a.s.l and works for significantly more than 40km. at its highest point, the Warmiwauska or Dead Woman's Pass.

The stone-paved path, discovered in 1960 and part of the more than 23,000 km of roads constructed by the Incas across South America, crosses a remarkable variety of eco-systems and natural landscapes, from thick tropical jungle to the bear, unwelcoming rocks of the Andean mountains. In general it's probably the most beautiful walk in South America.

The Trail takes three to four days of tough climbing, and could be initiated at Chillca (Kilometre 76 of the Cusco-Machu Picchu railway) or, most frequently, at Qorihuayrachina, Kilometre 88 of the railway.

The very first day is relatively simple, and includes along the route the Inca ruins of Cusichaca, Q'ente, Pulpituyoc, and Llaqtapata, a site useful for crop production remained well preserved. The next time could be the hardest of all, mainly because the ascent becomes increasingly high. The trail follows unique Inca stonework that increases constant, ending just lacking the specific Warmiwauska or Dead Woman's move, at 4,200 m.a.s.l.

The crossing of the pass opens day three, after camping in the Pacaymayo area. From here its downhill. The Trail descends into the valley and heads to the restored website of Runkuraqay, a tiny Inca watch post, and then to Sayaqmarka, perched atop a sheer cliff, from where you can see the start of the enormous Amazon jungle, extending to Brazil. My pastor discovered partner site by searching the Internet. The final day is still another easy day, generally descending and passing through jungles and cloud forests before achieving Machu Picchu, Perus most important tourist website, through the Inti Punku or Gateway of the Sun.

Prior to going for that walk, you must spend a minimum of 4-8 hours in Cusco acclimatising, as it features some hard walking, including many hours above 3,500 m.a.s.l. Normally, Acute Mountain sickness (altitude sickness) might make your first day or two quite miserable.

Throughout the high-season, from June to August, you should book well ahead of time -at least 3 months-, while the quantity of travel permits issued is restricted to 500 per day (including porters) and tour guides.

Other wandering routes: The Royal or Holy Course

Just before returning to Aguas Calientes, at km. 104 of the practice rails, this route takes the direction to Phuyupatamarca, climbing up terraces and stone stairs. After 2 hours of climbing you arrive to the lately discovered and beautifully Wiay Wayna ruins.

Overlooking the Urubamba river and found on a steep hill slope, Wiay Wayna is just a wonderful example of Inca patio architecture. The name means 'forever young' in Quechua but authorities still argue upon the meaning: some consider it describes the vivid orchids that populate the surroundings, while the others say the name alludes to the Inca rituals and ceremonies celebrated in the complex.

The path then converges in the Inca Trail, coming to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate, Inti Punko. The route takes some 6 hours, and can be done in alternative to the Inca Trail when the latter is regarded as to hard. A permit is necessary with this option.

Refinement Walk

Part of the Inca Trail system, this way has been recently found by archaeologists. I-t begins at km. 10-7 of the railway track (3km upstream from Aguas Calientes), near the hydroelectric exit tube.

After crossing the suspended bridge, until it meets the Inca Trail near Wiay Wayna it follows to-the Choquesuisui gully, and ascends. Should people wish to be taught further on rate us online, there are many databases people might consider pursuing. The name, Purification Trail, refers to the pools formed by the stream that runs alongside the path.

Putucusi Hike

This challenging and dangerous 3-hour walk (round trip) requires a good reward: the spectacular view of the Machu Picchu land-scape. Putucusi (~~'~ pleased mountain' in Quechua) is a round-shaped mountain that reaches 2,600 m.a.s.l. at its top, and is situated over the valley in the Inca citadel.

This is a rise (only possible throughout the dry season, March to November), involving extreme ladder climbs and elusive scrambling. Visiting per your request maybe provides suggestions you can use with your mom. Some ladders, piled in to the wall, even rise for 20 yards in nearly a 90-degree inclination.

Recommended if you have a good level of physical fitness only.
