One of the top schools around is the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School (PGS). The school has been open since 1949 and has been training gunsmiths ever since. The curriculum at PGS teaches you to become a master gunsmith. There are no other courses taught at PGS so you are not expected to study any liberal arts classes or English. Another well regarded program is Trinidad State Jr. College. This gunsmithing school has been schooling gunsmiths since 1947. It is a two year program and you are expected to take some general education classes. This is a very popular program and spaces are already booked long in advance. The school will teach you all the skills, such as repairing and modifying a range of guns and the correct use of the tools needed to be a qualified gunsmith. In fact it is so well received that Trinidad State Jr. College has recently begun a new Advanced Third Year Program. You have to be a graduate of a gunsmithing program before you can join this new program. The faculty at this school state that they only take the most talented graduates from gunsmith schools across the country.

The third highly regarded gunsmithing school is Yavapai College, which offers two options of study. You can study in a certificate program or a degree program. If you opt to take the degree program, you will need to take general education courses as well as dedicated gunsmithing classes. In the certificate program, you do not need to take the general education classes and focus mainly on gunsmithing. Yavapai will train you to qualify as an apprentice gunsmith and all the way to becoming a master gunsmith. The program requires that you earn forty credits which will take you two years.

These three programs would be a top choice for anyone interested in pursuing a career in gunsmithing. You must decide if you want a degree course or a certificate course but each program will train both the technical aspects of being a gunsmith as well as the non technical sides such as the legal and practical issues of gunsmithing and opening your own shop.
