Benefits of Hypnotherapy


[1] Hyperactivity] - The goal of most hypnotherapy is always to alter some undesirable aspect of behavior. The aspect of behavior to become modified is an activity like overeating, stop smoking, anxiety or it can range to more severe personality disorders like psychosis. The therapist, in hypnotherapy, puts the topic in to a trance like state where the therapist can deliver suggestion or consult with the subject's subconscious mind directly. Basically, the trance permits the therapist to bypass the subject's conscious.

[2] Irrational Thoughts] - Inducing a trance is a relatively easy process. There are various techniques just like having the subject stare at and focus on a spot on the wall or waving a stopwatch or pendulum back-and-forth in front of his face while he follows it with his eyes. The therapist, speaking inside a monotone, says things such as "you have become more and more relaxed", "you can seem to be the strain draining from the body", etc. When the subject is within the trance the therapist then gives the suggestions inside the same monotonic voice. The suggestions have to be carefully worded to bring about the specified effect. Once the therapy session has ended, the therapist brings the topic from the trance by saying something like "you are be mindful of you surroundings" and "open your eyes when you are ready to". The niche will then "wake up". Hypnotherapy directed by a therapist is known hetero-suggestion.

[3] Restlessness Sadness] - If the intention of the hypnotherapy would be to modify behavior like overeating or stop smoking, usually multiple session is required. The consequences aren't immediate however the behavior must start to change gradually in days or weeks. Hypnotherapy can make it easier for the subject to lose weight or to give up smoking. Also, hypnotherapy can be attractive the treatment of some psychoses. Inside the trance like state the therapist can talk to the subject and produce up repressed events that are causing problems within the subject's life. Several things too painful to state in a conscious state may be able to be revealed in hypnotic state. These painful past events may be causing symptoms like dreams or nightmares, phobias, etc. A psychotherapist, having understanding of these events, is within an improved position to aid the topic recover.
