With so much interest in how social networks work, one begins to wonder if there is marketing potential within these social networks? I have been seeing social networking for a while now. The truth is I am a part of numerous social network websites including http://www.myspace.com/ and https://www.linkedin.com only... There's been a virtual explosion of social networking sites before year or two. Even the big people like Google, Yahoo and MSN are getting into it. We discovered https://twitter.com/orangeco_seo by browsing newspapers. With therefore much interest in how social networks function, one begins to wonder if there is marketing potential within these social networks? I've been watching social media for quite a while now. The truth is I am a part of various social networking sites including https://www.linkedin.com and http://www.myspace.com/ just to name two. I joined partly because I wished to see what these were, but more importantly to see what impact social network might have on SEM in-the coming years. I've been an associate of numerous ser-vices for quite a while and the reach these sites have is incredible. As an example, from my LinkedIn network of seven people I've an expanded network of over 12,600 people. Imagine that - I'm just a click or two away from close to 13,000 others who share my related interests ranging from what I like to watch o-n TV to work I could provide to them. Through their connections and my connections, I am attached to people including the American Cancer Society, to Sun Microsystems to the University of Texas to Google. But what marketing possibilities are there for Social Network? Well, let us look at MySpace. MySpace is one of many top sites on the internet today. I-t racked up 9.4 thousand page-views in August 2005 (significantly more than Google) and new customers are signing up at-a mind-boggling rate of 3.5 million per month. MySpace is typical of where todays 18-30 year old goes to manage their digital life. It allows users to post photos of themselves and their friends, create a weblog, list their favorite bands, watch and share videos, suggest things to do and lists a set of people they consider friends. It is on this 'Friends List' where all the possibilities lie. All forty million-plus consumers of MySpace possess a friends site that lists people that person views their friend. This is a set of people who they are interested in talking to and about, as well as reading from on a normal basis. Once you put somebody as your friend they can send you emails, discuss your images, read your websites, in addition to abandon messages that you can then share with others. That is the opportunity for immediate feedback about you. The ability to add friends to your site is crucial for marketing to MySpace people. According to Courtney Holt, head of new media and strategic marketing at Interscope Records, 'This technology is growing up with no ever seen programmed media. 'They do not think in terms of-the album, and they do not think in terms of the TV schedule. They think in terms of TiVo, P2P, AOL, and of course MySpace. You can see how this may develop. Let's say you develop a MySpace account to talk about your products or services. You website about any of it and search for your interests that may be shared by others. Afterward you invite them to be your friend. If they develop into a friend you start your 'comfortable offer' begging your product in their mind. They begin blogging and sharing it, as they grow to appreciate it. Quickly hundreds or even thousand of people are referring to you and your product or service. Do not think this will work? Allow me to give a few examples to you. There are numerous groups who have gotten their begin MySpace. By just hosting some of their music on line and blogging about themselves they developed a following. Soon they had record deals and contracts prearranged. Of course to work with ser-vices like MySpace you-need to have anything this target market needs. If you do not then you probably shouldn't put an excessive amount of energy in-to MySpace. But that will not mean other social network opportunities should be overlooked. When I stated earlier, Linked-in is more of a professional introduction service. If your product or service meets here then by all means examine it further. And there are others as well. Companies for example Yahoos MyWeb, Flickr, http://del.icio.us and more. If you have ever wondered what other online options could be available, con-sider social-networking. Maybe it's the next great online marketing channel..
