A senior at Brazos High, Tyler is not any stranger to tractor tournaments. He has been fixing vehicles for four years, and had an especially successful year in 2005, winning the ten shows he attended with his Grandpa's 1959 John Deere 6-30, including a national competition and three state contests.
Tyler, who has a learning disability, has benefited greatly from playing the tractor games. They've helped him build confidence and concentrate on his skills, enhancing his project management and public speaking skills. And each year his familiarity with tractor parts is continuing to grow.
'I prefer to just take a classic tractor and ensure it is as effective as new, or even much better than the original,' said Tyler. 'This year was particularly satisfying since I worked in the garage with my Grandpa and restored a thing that was particular to him.'
The experience was an exceptionally good one for Jordan, the only girl from the Brazos FFA to enter the competition, while falling a bit short in her quest for the name. Sick and tired of being the 'go-fer woman' for Tyler as h-e worked on his buses, Jordan decided to overcome her very own restoration, a John Deere 420.
Jordan, in her first-year showing vehicles, originally drew inspiration from an unlikely place-the music video for 'Save your self a Horse, Ride a Cowboy,' by country team Big and Rich.
