5 Job Interview Tips for Restaurant Managers

But there is more to winning the job interview that just looking the part.

But they are looking for very specific answers. The first thing they want is know what you have done - not what you have learned.
1. What are your people skills
restaurant management jobs - Can you answer questions about staffing, training, and problem solving? Do you know how to solve problems? Do you have a strategy? Have you ever written a customer handbook? Have you ever conducted a training strategy?
People skills are not always about getting your own way in a situation. The most important aspect of people skills is your ability to control situations.
2. Do you Understand what Hospitality is?
You may be asked to explain what hospitality is. Do you know? Can you give a strong, succinct answer? Can you create the culture of hospitality? Do you know what to answer if the job interviewer asks ‘what is your philosophy of customer service?’
If you do not understand the true meaning of hospitality, or how to be hospitable, then it is very difficult to create an environment of good customer service.
3. What is your customer service strategy
The job interviewer wants to hear more than, ‘the customer always comes first,’ and ‘never argue with the customer. But do you have a customer service strategy. Do you know what hospitality is? Can you teach the philosophy of hospitality to a team? Can you create a culture of customer service?
Great news if you can. If you cannot then it might be a good idea to find a mentor, read some books.
4. Have You Written an Employee Handbook
This series of questions can be quite broad. What is the role of a manager? What does leadership look like to you? Can you be assertive without being aggressive or passive? What are some of your best negotiation techniques? How do you motivate? What is your communication style? How do you deal with a disruptive employee?
5. Communication Skills
Communication skills are the strongest tool in the manager’s arsenal. Good communication skills give you the ability to negotiate, motivate, and appease. Communication skills also include guidelines and rules for managing and stopping toxic communication. It includes using ‘active listening’.
Communication isn’t about conveying your message to someone else. It can also be about listening, and hearing what they are saying - even if they do not have good communication skills.
The stronger your communication skills the easier it will be to manage a team. If you want a restaurant manager’s job, then you need to invest your time to become a strong communicator.
