I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Valentine. I lived in Rome during the next century. That was long, long ago! At the moment, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. I did not like Emperor Claudius, and I was not the only one! Plenty of people shared my thoughts.

Claudius wanted to have a large army. H-e expected men to offer to participate. For another interpretation, please consider taking a peep at: privacy. Lots of men only did not need to fight in wars. They didn't want to leave their families and wives. To read additional info, consider having a gander at: details. While you could have thought, not many men registered. That made Claudius furious. What exactly happened? He had a crazy idea. He thought that when men weren't married, they would not mind joining the army. Therefore Claudius decided not to let any longer marriages. Young adults thought his new law was harsh. I thought it had been crazy! I undoubtedly wasn't likely to support that law!

Did I mention that I was a priest? Certainly one of my favourite actions was to marry couples. I continued performing marriage ceremonies -- privately, of course, even with Emperor Claudius handed his law. It was really very interesting. Imagine a small candle-lit room with only the bride and groom and myself. We'd whisper what of the service, hearing even while for the steps of soldiers.

One evening, we did hear footsteps. It was frightening! Thank goodness the couple I was marrying escaped in-time. I was found. (Not exactly as light on my feet as I applied to be, I guess.) I was placed in prison and told that my punishment was death.

I tried to keep happy. And have you any idea what? Great things happened. To get alternative interpretations, you are encouraged to check out: web address. Many teenagers came to the jail to go to me. They threw flowers and notes up to my window. They wanted me to know that they, too, believed in-love.

One of these young adults was the daughter of the prison guard. Get more on the affiliated article - Click here: I Claudius (DVD) Review x Baltimore Party Bus. Her father allowed her to go to me in the cell. Sometimes we would sit and talk for hours. She helped me to keep my spirits up. She decided that I did the proper thing by ignoring the Emperor and going ahead with the trick unions. On the day I was to die, I left my friend just a little notice thanking her for her friendship and devotion. I signed it, 'Love from your Valentine.'

In my opinion that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valentine's. It was published o-n the day I died, February 1-4, 269 A.D.

Now, every year on this very day, people remember. But most importantly, they think of love and friendship. And when they think about Emperor Claudius, they remember how he tried to stand in the way in which of love, and they laugh -- because they realize that love can't be crushed!.
