An oil platform, (offshore platform or colloquially oil rig) may be a giant structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to briefly store product till it is dropped at shore for refining and promoting. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the manpower similarly.
Depending on the circumstances, the platform could also be fastened to the seabed, could include an artificial island, or may float. Remote subsea wells may also be connected to a platform by flow lines and by umbilical connections. These subsea solutions could contains one or a lot of subsea wells, or of one or additional manifold centres for multiple wells.
