There are a number of gunsmith training gunsmithing schools that you can rely on to become a qualified gunsmith. In fact, it can be hard to decide which of the many schools is right for you.
One of the greatest schools around is the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School (PGS). The program has been around since 1949 and has been teaching gunsmiths ever since. The program at PGS trains you to become a master gunsmith. There are no other classes taught at PGS so you do not have to follow any liberal arts classes or English. They just focus on teaching you . Not many other programs that teach gunsmithing are this focused.
Another highly regarded program is Trinidad State Jr. College. This gunsmithing school has been schooling gunsmiths since 1947. It is a two year program and you will be required to take some general education classes. This is a very popular school and spaces are already booked well in advance. The school will teach you all the skills, such as repairing and modifying a range of guns and the correct use of the tools needed to be a successful gunsmith. Actually it is so well received that Trinidad State Jr. College has not long ago opened a new Advanced Third Year Program. You must be a graduate of a gunsmithing program before you can start this new program. The faculty at this school say that they only take the top twenty five per cent of graduates from gunsmith schools across the country.
The third excellent gunsmithing school is Yavapai College, which offers two options of study. You can study in a certificate program or a degree program. If you opt to take the degree program, you will be expected to take general education classes as well as dedicated gunsmithing classes. In the certificate program, you do not need to take the general education courses and focus mainly on gunsmithing. Yavapai will teach you to qualify as an apprentice gunsmith and all the way to becoming a master gunsmith. The course requires that you earn forty credits which will take you two years.
These three options would be a excellent choice for anyone interested in pursuing a career in gunsmithing. You will need to decide if you want a degree course or a certificate course but each option will teach both the technical aspects of gunsmithing as well as the less technical sides such as the legal and practical issues of being a gunsmith and opening your own shop.
