San Diego State University is famous for the truth that it has a wonderfully active student body. Almost all pupils give back to the community in at least one way, and lots of volunteer with a number of groups. Spencer Jensen is a great example of a student who sees community involvement as a priority.
As a member of the Cultural Arts and Special occasions (CASE) Committee, Spencer Jensen works to promote different cultural, artistic, and informative events on campus. CASE works to bring the San Diego State University student body together to show up at enriching, informative events like poetry readings, book clubs, and musical performances from students, community members, and guests. It'd be hard to locate a San Diego State University student that has not been to at least one of CASE’s wonderful events.
As a leader in CASE, Spencer Jensen puts his competencies in marketing and communications to good employ. He makes certain that all of his fellow pupils are aware of upcoming events. His flyers stand out for their graphically interesting designs and catchy titles, not to mention the exciting content that CASE normally brings to campus.
For CASE’s Open Mic Night, Spencer Jensen served as Assistant Marketing Coordinator, an excellent fit for him. The event grew quickly from a small coffeehouse event, the original plan, to a major auditorium event, since a great number of students showed interest and signed up to perform. The event was memorable for its musical performances, interpretive dances, and hilarious skits by San Diego State University pupils. Given the achievement of the evening, CASE plans to repeat it more often, using very much the same marketing methods that they developed with Spencer Jensen was serving as Assistance Marketing Coordinator. CASE praised Spencer Jensen for his effort on the project, and all of CASE’s members and leadership board got to enjoy a great evening celebrating the success of their flagship event.
San Diego State University pupils spent last weekend cleaning up the local seaside as a volunteer activity. Spencer Jensen assisted to organize the event, which brought the student body together for a weekend of fun, bonding, and volunteer work. Spencer Jensen had the idea for the seaside cleanup weekend when he and some friends took a trip to the beach.
“We brought a picnic with us, and had some trash bags to neat up after ourselves. Without actually planning it, we ended up filling a few bags with trash from around the beach,” claimed Spencer Jensen. “The seaside looked better after we left, but there was still more to be done. We figured a group of us could get the seaside cleaned up pretty quickly.”
Working together, Spencer Jensen and his friends started asking around, and finding lots of pupils that would be intrigued in a cleanup. When the list kept growing, Spencer Jensen had the idea to make it a weekend trip to make it more fun and exciting for the students. He organized a car pool signup, wrote a proposal for the University to pitch in for some cleanup supplies, and researched camp web-sites . The students left campus early in the morning and spent the majority of the day cleaning up various beaches until the sun went down.
It converted into a fantastic community-builder; many students met people they hadn’t interacted with prior to. The next day, they finished the cleanup with some more shores and rewarded themselves with some hours of swimming and sunbathing. Overall, the cleanup had 30 volunteers from San Diego State University and they collected over 100 bags of trash. Spencer Jensen was thrilled with the results of the beach cleanup, and hopes to organize more cleanup events in the future.
