De BISAWiki

Montessori education is driven by an ambitious aim: To aid thechild's developmentinto acomplete adult human being, comfortable with himself, with his society and with humanity as awhole. Whereas the traditional approach to education, which prevails today, remains focusedon the transmission of prescribed blocks of knowledge, the Montessori approach is focusedon giving support to the natural development of the human being.

Montessori schools therefore believe that each child is an individual and should be encouraged to work at the pace that is right for him or her. There are no grades or tests. Children are never in competition with each other.

Montessori education builds on the continuingself-construction of the child—daily, weekly, yearly—for the duration of the program. Although Montessori schools are divided into multiageclassrooms—parent infant (ages 0 to 3), pre-school (ages 3 to 6), primary (ages 6 to 12)
