Ann Elisabeth Everett, a graduate of Allen High School in Allen, Texas, had a great high school career. She earned a 3.5 grade point average, and she was inducted into the National Honor Society for every year that she was in high school. Ann Elisabeth Everett was also active in extracurricular activities in high school. She volunteered with local community groups and played sports like fast pitch softball. We caught up with the university sophomore to see what advice she would give to high school students so that they can do as well and have as much fun as she did.
First, Ann Elisabeth Everett recommends that high school students try out lots of different classes and activities. “High school is a great time to find out what your skills and passions are,” says Everett. She recalls trying all sorts of different sports, from volleyball to swimming. She made great friends and learned a lot on every team, but softball ended up being her favorite sport. It is important to try lots of things in high school so you can learn what you do and don’t like.
Ann Elisabeth Everett would also advise high school students to think about the future. “It can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day in high school, but don’t forget what you’re working towards,” she advises. If you have a specific career goal, try to take classes and find volunteer activities that will get you closer to your goal. No matter what your goals are, grades are always important. Working hard to keep your grades up in high school will pay off in the future.
Finally, Ann Elisabeth Everett reminds high school students that high school should be fun! Her final words of advice are, “Work hard and try lots of new things, but make sure you have time for a social life!”
Most universities have many great programs. In this series, we take a look at several different students who study in various departments within their university.
