Children know very well what makes you tick and what humors you. They will try things to test you, for this reason I emphasize on maintaining rules overall.
A good parent i think is considered as one who can display her child just how much it is loved, person who can discipline the child, one who can be trusted and one who shows respect. A young child that is shown respect easily returns the favor.
In my opinion in teaching morals and setting rules for kids. A child that has rules to follow in most cases turns out to be the kid with more respect. When I say rules I do not mean rules which are set at a correctional facility for inmates. I'm speaking about basic rules and morals in the household to develop that child to the citizens we admire today.
