Should You Get One?

Over this course, however, I have been frequently annoyed with the number of times the Roku 3 hangs up and the number of clicks I have to make to view content. Hardly a couple of days go by before I have to unplug and reconnect the Roku 3 device for a hard boot. The cause of this recurrent system freeze seems quite inexplicable to me. It is hard to say whether the channel(s) are at fault here or the core system itself. Regardless, the Roku 3 operating system needs to be able to sand box fatal errors caused by individual channels.

Remote is the stellar feature which has a headphone jack with volume buttons for private listening experience. You have to plug-in the audio jack, as soon as you do it the TV becomes mute and you can listen all the sounds via headphones. Volume control buttons on the left side of remote can adjust the volume. Another cool feature is that you can leave the TV volume un affected if you enter the personal listening mode. The remote is connected through WiFI Direct which means you don’t need to point it to the box if you need to change something.

Well if you have recently bought Dvds-in the last few months-you may have noticed that quite a few of them have included notices saying that this film is now yours to download to a computer. This means that when you purchase the DVD you also purchase the downloadable version meaning you can have it on your computer tablets or iphone. SO what do you do when you want to watch your new film on your tv but have lost the DVD. Well this is where Roku and WDTV come in handy all you need to do is plug your external device into your Smart Device and voila!

The entry-level LT is pretty much the same as its predecessor in a brand new shell, but the Roku 1 gets a considerable upgrade with support for 1080p video (the old one supported just 720p), while the Roku 2 adds a new headphone jack and dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities, which previously were features exclusive to the Roku 3. Roku tells TechCrunch that 40 percent of its customers said the headphone jack was the reason they opted for the Roku 3, so this should bump up sales of the lower cost unit. The LT retails for $49.99, while the Roku 1 is $59.99 and the Roku 2 is $79.99.

First let me say I LOVE ROKU PLAYERS! I Have owned many and they have worked great. roku 3 is the first player I have had trouble with. I wouldn't worry if I only had trouble with ONE player but BOTH units I bought have lasted for less then two months. When I contacted customer service they offered to replace one player after we trouble shot in all the ways I had ALREADY troubleshot for almost an hour. I think companies like Amazon and Apple owe much of there success to their willingness to stand behind their products.

While the Roku 2 certainly had a leg up over Apple TV with channels, it easily had way more channels and services integrated, it turns out that was about the only thing that I liked about it. I found the Roku 2 box to be a unfriendly mix of bad interface design, unstable software and awkward channel adding. First the software design looked like a web page from the early 90’s, complete with tacky banner ads. The mix of bare bones software and bland presentation did not give me confidence. If the company put this little work into their interface, how is the actual box going to perform?
